Siegfried “Ziggy” Wachsmuth was one of the best pitchers ever to don the Green & White. The late Wachsmuth finished his career with an amazing 16-7 record and 2.08 ERA. His 16 wins trail Hall of Famers Bill Willetts, Don Finley, Minnesota Twin farmhand Joe Testa, 2009 NEC Player of the Year Matt Watson and Philadelphia Phillies farmhand Mike McTamney and his 2.08 career ERA is second behind only Finley. He was Wagner's first Metropolitan College Baseball Conference All-Star in 1951 when he went 7-2 with a 1.29 ERA, allowing only 47 hits and striking out 51 in 77 innings pitched. In 1952, he was also named a MCBC All-Star allowing only 57 hits in 72 innings pitched. When not pitching, Wachsmuth played the outfield and led the team in hitting with a .364 batting average his senior season.
