Hall of Fame
Herb Sutter has the distinction of being the first-ever inductee into the Wagner Hall of Fame, as he was enshrined in 1989. The 1931 Wagner College graduate was the Seahawks’ longtime athletic director, before retiring in 1974. Sutter served as head men’s basketball coach from 1937-1965 (no 1943-44 season due to WWII), amassing a record of 352-250 (.584). He holds the Wagner record for most wins (352), games coached (602), and longest coaching tenure (27 seasons).  His Seahawk teams won 18 or more games five times, headed by the 1955-56 squad that compiled a 20-3 record. Sutter was also Wagner’s first-ever head baseball coach, establishing the program in 1945 and compiling a 16-year record of 149-128-7 (.537). The 16 seasons represent the longest baseball coaching tenure in Wagner history.
