A. Robert Burton (1938-1942) graduated from Wagner with the distinction as one of the best athletes to ever don the Green & White, having earned 12 varsity letters during his four year stay on Grymes Hill.
Â
Not only did Burton receive letters in the three major sports (football, basketball, baseball), but on the gridiron Burton played the entire 60 minutes of most games and scored an average of a touchdown a game over his four year career as a wide receiver. During that time, the football squad notched a record of 17-6-1. At his graduation, Burton was bestowed with the prestigious Holter Key Award for scholarship, leadership, and athletic achievement.Â
