Tom O’Riordan was one of the most accurate and clutch placekickers in the long annals of Wagner football history, earning Pizza Hut Second-Team All-American honors in 1983. He was also an Associated Press (AP) Third-Team All-American in 1984 and an All-ECAC choice in 1985. In a career that spanned from 1983-1986, O'Riordan held the school record with 35 field goals at the time of his graduation and still ranks second in that catagory. His 13 made field goals during the 1984 season were also a record upon his graduation and currently rank second in school history. O’Riordan played on teams that combined to win 76 percent (32-10-1) of their games and his pin-point accuracy played an important role in many of those victories. He currently holds the top spot in Seahawk history with 132 extra points in a career, 40 extra points in a season and eight extra points in a game. Over the course of the 1983-1984 seasons, he was a perfect 46-of-46 on extra point attempts. Following a tryout with the New York Jets in 1987, he has been a member of the New York Police Department’s (NYPD) Gaelic football team since 1989. O’Riordan is retired from his position as a Detective with the NYPD’s bomb squad unit, a role he served from 1987-2007. His brother Jerry was a member of Wagner’s 1987 Division III National Championship team. Currently employed as an operations engineer, he and his wife, Mary, reside in his native Stony Point, NY with their three children – Fiona, Thomas and Christine.
