George Lewis, nicknamed “Clor” by his peers, played three seasons on the diamond for Wagner from 1953 to 1956 as a fine-fielding catcher that captained the Seahawks in each of his last two seasons. A three-time Metropolitan College Baseball Conference All-Star Lewis played professional baseball after signing a contract that included a $4,000 signing bonus with the Boston Red Sox. His initial season (1956) at Corning, NY he hit 32 home runs, batted .302 and was named league MVP. Following his playing days, Lewis was named vice president of Merrill Lynch. Him and his wife have five children; James, Susan, Meredith, Jill and Connie.
