Chris West (1985-1988) was a disruptive defensive force at linebacker, in the secondary, and on special teams, excelling for the Seahawks during one of the greatest eras in program history. The third-leading tackler on Wagner’s 1987 Division III National Championship team, the four teams he played on combined for a 39-6 record (86.7 percent). In the 19-3 victory over Dayton in the 1987 national title game, West delivered a dominant performance, amassing 12 tackles, nine of which came in the pivotal second half. Predominantly an outside linebacker in the Seahawks’ 4-4 defensive scheme during his career, the 6-2, 205-pound West was stout at setting the edge against the run and flexible enough to be effective against the pass and in blitzing situations. The Green & White were 9-2 in both 1985 and 1986, claiming ECAC South titles in each of those seasons, before embarking on the magical 13-1 campaign in 1987. As a senior in 1988, the Albany, NY native helped the Seahawks to an 8-2 record and a second consecutive NCAA Playoff appearance.
