One of the best basketball players to play on Grymes Hill, Russ Selger graduated as Wagner's second-leading career scorer, behind only Hall of Famer Bob Bosley. Despite playing only three years due to then NCAA rules, his 1,524 career points while helping the Seahawk to a combined 49-32 record from 1965-1968 are still among the top-15 totals in school history in Wagner history. Selger punctuated his career with a MVP selection in the 1967-68 season, scoring 573 points for the 21-8 Seahawks. The 21 victories were at the time a school-record, breaking the 1955-1956 team’s mark of 20. As a result of his stellar season, Selger earned All-Conference honors and was named an NCAA East Region All-Star. Selger served as a guidance counselor and a teacher at Hopewell Valley Regional School in Pennington, NJ before retiring.
