Michael Perfect, one of the most versatile athletes of his era, was a standout member of both the Seahawk football and baseball squads. On the gridiron, Perfect, who excelled as a two-way player, was a four-year starter on both the offensive and defensive lines. In 1940, he was selected to captain the Wagner squad, which posted a 4-2-0 record. During his four seasons of football the team was 17-6-1 after posting a 1-17-3 record for the previous four years. Offensively, he started at center where he was instrumental in providing the blocking for the single and T-wing offenses, rarely making a bad snap into the backfield. Defensively, Perfect was equally impressive, intercepting many passes in a day where run plays far outnumbered pass plays. On the baseball diamond, Perfect was a four-year starter at second base, solidifying the infield while also providing offense to the tune of a career .300 average.
