BOX SCORE

Teaneck, NJ -
Wagner recorded season-highs in runs (14) and hits (16) en route to a decisive 14-4 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson in the series-finale at FDU Field. With the win, the Green & White take the series by a 3-1 count while improving to 12-13 and a NEC-best 8-4 in league-play while the Knights fall to 5-20 and 4-8 in the NEC.

Junior Seth Boyd (Perth Amboy, NJ / Perth Amboy) led the way on offense, going a perfect 5-for-5 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored. The fleet-footed second baseman has now reached base safely in eight-straight plate appearances (7 hits, 1 HBP), and batted .667 (10-15) with 10 RBI, eight runs, two doubles and two home runs over four games against the Knights on the weekend.

Batting out of the nine-hole, Freshman Gaby Ramirez (San Juan, Puerto Rico / Perkiomen) had a big game, notching a career-high four hits in five trips to the plate with three runs, three RBI and his third home run of the year while throwing out two runners attempting to steal.

Junior Brian Martutartus (Carlsbad, CA / La Costa Canyon) also notched multiple-hits, going 3-for-5 with a double. Despite seeing his streak of reaching base safely snapped at eight at-bats, sophomore Tommy Higgins (Port Monmouth, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) scored three runs while driving in two on a two-run double.

FDU took the early lead, scoring two runs in the first and one more in the third before the Wagner bats awoke in the top of the fourth inning.

Martutartus led off with a single before classmate Kevin McDonnell (Bristol, CT / Avon Old Farms) drew a five-pitch walk. Higgins then crushed the first pitch he saw to right center for a two-run double, before advancing to third on a throwing error. Boyd followed with a line-drive RBI single to left field, plating Higgins while tying the score up at 3-3.

After Seahawk starter RHP Dale Hering (Belle Mead, NJ / Montgomery) retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning, the Green & White bats struck for five runs in the top of the fourth.

Ramirez led off the top of the fifth inning with a single before senior Damian Csakai (Freehold Township, NJ / Freehold Township) reached via error. Martutartus then loaded up the bases with a bunt single to the pitcher. McDonnell followed with a two-run single up the middle, plating Ramirez and Csakai. Following a fielder's choice, Boyd crushed a three-run home run to centerfield, scoring McDonnell and Martutartus while extending the lead out to 8-3.

After the Knights got a run back in the bottom of the fifth inning, Ramriez deposited a solo home run over the left-center fence, extending the lead out to 9-4.

Hering left after 5.0 strong innings of work, striking out four while allowing four runs, all earned, on five hits and four walks.

FDU loaded up the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning but came away with no runs as senior RHP Andy Wells (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) induced an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play.

Wagner added two more runs to its lead in the top of the eighth inning. Junior Jon Lucas (Hackettstown, NJ / Hackettstown) led off with a single through the right side. Following a fly out, pinch-runner Nick Alfano (Coral Springs, FL / North Broward Prep) advanced to third on Ramirez's fourth hit of the game, a single off the second baseman's glove. Alfano made it 10-4, scoring off a successful Csakai suicide-squeeze bunt while moving Ramirez to second. Martutartus plated Ramirez with a run-scoring double, extending the lead out to 11-4.

The Seahawks capped the scoring with three runs in the top of the ninth inning. Higgins led off with a walk before moving to third on Boyd's career-high fifth hit of the game. Junior Jared Gruccio (Landisville, NJ / Buena Regional) brought Higgins home with a RBI-single before Matt Logan (Wall, NJ / Wall) plated Boyd with a run-scoring fielder's choice. Batting out of the nine-hole, Ramirez then recorded his career-high fourth hit of the game with a RBI-single up the middle, plating Gruccio while providing the final 14-4 margin.

Hering improved to 2-1 on the year with the victory while Matt Cadigan fell to 0-3, surrendering nine runs, eight earned, on 10 hits and one walk while striking out one.

Wagner heads to Seton Hall on Wednesday, April 14 for a 3:30 pm non-conference tilt.
