Lukas Torres Named NEC Male Team Student-Athlete of the Year

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Graduate outfielder Lukas Torres has been named the NEC's Male Team Student-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

Torres earns the awards after a six-year playing career on Grymes Hill, Wagner's 20th student-athlete to be tabbed with the honor and the second from the baseball program.

His final season as a Seahawk was capped off by All-NEC first team honors in 2026. Wagner's ever-reliable lead-off hitter, Torres moved between center and right field as needed this season, one of two Seahawks to start in all 53 games.

"Lukas has been an outstanding student-athlete, leader and person throughout his time at Wagner," said Walt Hameline, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. "He leads by example every day and serves as a role model for his teammates and younger student-athletes through his work ethic, character and commitment to excellence. We are extremely proud of him and this recognition is very well deserved."

A massive contributor to Wagner's offense and team culture, Torres set the program record for single-season and career walks this season, also recording his 200th career hit on the road at St. John's. The graduate earned All-NEC second team honors and a place on the NEC's All-Tournament team in 2025.

"Lukas has represented the Wagner College Baseball program and the campus community in an exceptional manner during his time here on Grymes Hill, said head coach Craig Noto. "The impact and legacy he has left behind here at Wagner College is one of academic and athletic success on and off the field."

"Hall of Fame players and Hall of Fame humans are an amazing combination. This is an amazing accomplishment and I would like to thank the NEC for honoring him. I thank Lukas for all of his efforts and wish him the best of luck as he heads into the next chapter of his life."

Torres finishes the 2026 season batting .406, a hit shy of the program's single-season hit record with 82 in 53 games. That average should have him in the top ten of all Division I hitters in the NCAA when the postseason concludes, one of a select few bating above .400 this season. Torres had a pair of four-hit games, finishing with a team-leading 26 multi-hit games.

Off the field, he was chosen to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-Region team, an honor for student-athletes performing well both in the classroom and on the field. He was also selected to the Lou Gehrig Community Impact Team as an honorable mention member, chosen by the College Baseball Hall of Fame to recognize players who make an impact in their communities.

Torres is an incredibly involved member of the community, involved in events around New York City as well as contributing to the culture on our campus. At Wagner, he has spent time as a peer tutor in the Department of Physical Sciences and served as president of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. He also served as vice president of the Gamma Sigma Epsilon Chemistry Honor Society, in addition to being a team representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at Wagner. Off campus, he volunteers annually at events across the city, including annual involvement at the TCS NYC Marathon and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk in Manhattan.

Graduating from Wagner with a pair of degrees, earning his Bachelor's of Science in chemistry then returning for a Master's of Business Administration with a concentration in finance. He finishes his graduate degree with a 3.94 GPA.
