Baseball Opens Three-Game Series At No. 4 Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, TN - The Wagner College baseball team opens a three-game series with No. 4 ranked Vanderbilt today at noon. 

The Seahawks and Commodores will be playing a doubleheader Friday, as inclement weather is predicted for the Nashville area. Game two of the series will commence 45 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

The series concludes on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. (CST). 

All three games will be streamed live on SEC Network+

Series History...
  • Friday's series opener will mark the first time that Vanderbilt and Wagner have met in the all-time history between the two programs.
  • Wagner is 0-3 all-time against members of the SEC, last playing against Florida during the 1993 season (0-2).
  • They also played South Carolina on March 12, 1992. 
About Vanderbilt...
  • The Commodores are currerntly on a nine-game winning streak after sweeping a four-game set at Hawaii last weekend, outscoring the Rainbow Warriors 36-5. 
  • Vanderbilt, all-time, has two National Championships (2014 & 2019) while appearing in the tournament 19 times in their program history. 
  • Last year, the pitching duo of Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker were selected in the top 10 of the 2021 MLB Draft, marking the third time in their history that Vanderbilt had multiple top-10 picks in a single draft. 
  • Davis Diaz leads the team with a .500 batting average while Tate Kolwyck has a team-high three home runs.
  • Javier Vaz paces the Commodores with 12 RBIs while Dominic Keegan is next with 10. 
  • On the mound, Chris McElvain boasts a 1.15 ERA and a 2-0 record in three starts. He has 28 strikeouts against five walks and batters are hitting .161 against him. 
  • Thomas Schultz leads the club with three saves. 
  • As a whole, Vanderbilt's team ERA is 1.66 and have produced 148 strikeouts to 39 walks over 103.0 innings.
