West Long Branch, NJ  – Following a split of its two midweek home contests, the Wagner College baseball team travels to West Long Branch, NJ this weekend, as the Seahawks will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 23 with game one against host, Monmouth, followed by a game two matchup vs. Seton Hall. The weekend concludes for the Seahawks against the Hawks on Sunday afternoon.

» Longtime Northeast Conference (NEC) rivals, Wagner and Monmouth will be meeting for the 97th time with the Hawks leading the head-to-head series, 60-36.
» Since 2005, the two teams have meet 38 times, with Monmouth holding a 22-16 edge. 
» Wagner has taken the last two matchups, though, earning a 4-1 victory back on April 1, 2014 and a 6-3 triumph back on April 14, 2013 in game two of that scheduled doubleheader. Both contests were held in West Long Branch, NJ.

» Wagner and Seton Hall will square off for the second time in a four-day span and for the 43rd time in program history.

» This weekend's contests at Monmouth marks a homecoming for Wagner head coach, Jim Carone
» Carone, who is in his eighth season as head coach of the Seahawks, was a four-year member of the Hawks' pitching staff (2000-03). Wagner last played Monmouth in 2014. 
» Carone racked up 17 wins in a Hawks uniform, highlighted by a 10-3 overall record in 2002 en route to being tabbed the NEC Pitcher of the Year, 
» He remains the lone person in NEC history to win Pitcher of the Year honors as a player and Coach of the Year (twice). 
» In the Monmouth record books, Carone still ranks among the top-ten in complete games (10), innings pitched (245.0), and wins (17). 
» Back in 2002, Carone finished the season with a 2.21 ERA, which ranks as the third-lowest in a single season for Monmouth.

» On March 17, Wagner blanked Mount St. Mary's, 4-0, in taking two-of-three during the opening weekend of league play.
» The win marked the 175th career coaching victory for two-time NEC Coach of the Year, Jim Carone, as he is just one of two Wagner bench bosses to ever accumulate 175 or more wins, joining former Seahawk head coach, Joe Litterio, who amassed a program-record 240 career wins in 12 seasons on Grymes Hill. 
» Carone's squad earned a 13-3 victory over Saint Peter's on Wednesday to give him career win No. 176.

// Seahawks Sweep NEC Weekly Honors...
» The Wagner baseball team swept all three weekly Northeast Conference (NEC) honors as senior shortstop Anthony Pecora (Player of the Week), junior right hander, McCae Allen (Pitcher of the Week), and freshman left-handed pitcher John LaPointe (Co-Rookie of the Week) were all recognized by the league it was announced on Tuesday afternoon.
» With Tuesday's announcement, this marks the third time in program history that Wagner has had players home honors in all three weekly categories. Back on May 22, 2017, former Seahawk outfielder, Anthony Godino (Player of the Week), current left-hander Neil Abbatiello (Pitcher), and junior Freddy Sabdio (Rookie) each garnered weekly honors from the league.

// 350 Conference Wins For Wagner...
» When the Seahawks put the finishing touches on a 4-0 shutout victory over the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers, the triumph gave the program its 350th all-time Northeast Conference (NEC) win.
» In 29 years of conference action, Wagner has posted a 350-357-0 all-time mark. 

// Seahawk Cycle...
» Against Saint Peter's on Wednesday afternoon at home, the Seahawk infield, collectively, hit for the cycle. 
» Seniors Will Johnson had a double and a home run, while classmate Anthony Pecora and sophomore Mike Ruggiero each provided singles while sophomore catcher Brandon Hall belted a triple and freshman Shamus Connolly rounded out with inside-the-park home run early in the contest. 
» Individually, senior CF Joe Silvestrone, who had a three-hit day, came within a home run of completing the cycle, as he tripled in the third, doubled in the fourth and singled in the fifth. 

// Beyer & LaPointe Stellar On Wednesday...
» Junior right-hander Justin Beyer, who made his second start of the year against Saint Peter's on Wednesday, picked up his first victory in a Seahawk uniform, after tossing six strong innings without giving up an earned run (three runs) in striking out five as Wagner defeated Saint Peter's, 13-3. 
» Freshman southpaw and NEC Co-Rookie of the Week, John LaPointe, earned his second collegiate save of the year,  coming on for Beyer in working three scoreless innings while yielding two hits and fanning four Saint Peter's batters. 

// About Monmouth...
» Monmouth enters play at 6-11-1, after playing Richmond to a 6-6 draw in 13 innings on Wednesday afternoon.
» The Hawks are unbeaten in their last four contests, after taking two-of-three at George Mason and recording a 17-3 road triumph at Longwood on March 19. 
» JD Andreessen leads the club with a .316 batting average, slugging percentage (.408) and hits (24). Johnny Zega is the team's leader with .378 on-base percentage while Zach Schild has driven in a team-leading 15 RBIs. 
»  On the hill, Dan Klepchick and James Kelly, who the Seahawks are set to face, each have two wins on the season with Klepchick recording a team-best 20 strikeouts. 

// About Seton Hall... 
» The Hall comes into Saturday's contest at 4-12 after defeating Wagner, 11-7, on Tuesday afternoon. 
» Matt Toke, who was named to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll, led the way with three hits and was one of three Pirates to score two runs. Connor Hood and Tyler Schedler-McAvoy each had three RBIs in the contest. 
» Jerry Huntzinger and Toke are the only Hall players batting over .300 thus far this season, with Huntzinger leading the way with a .333 batting average. Hood has drove in a team-best 11 RBIs.
» Noah Thompson, who is slated to start against Wagner, is 2-1 on the season in 21.1 innings in which he has fanned 27 batters and walked just seven, all while holding opponents to a .227 batting average. 
» Corey Sawyer, who picked up his third save against the Green & White, has posted a 1.59 ERA in ten appearances while limiting hitters to .167. 

// Seahawks In Spring Training... 
» Nick Dini (Kansas City Royals): Dini, the 2015 NEC Player of the Year, has appeared in eight games and has batted .400 with two runs scored and drove in two RBIs... On March 2, against Seattle, Dini went 1-for-2 and drove in those two RBIs in Kansas City's 8-0 victory. 
» Nolan Long (Los Angeles Dodgers): Long made his spring debut on March 20 against the Chicago Cubs. The towering 6-10 right-hander came on in the bottom of the ninth in a 4-4 game and proceeded to strikeout the first two batters he faced (Johnny Field and Donnie Dewees) before allowing a walk to Zack Short. Short stole second but Long closed out the game, getting Vimael Machin to ground out to first as the game ended in a tie. 
» Ian Miller (Seattle Mariners): Miller appeared in eight games this spring while connecting on a home run and driving in three RBI. He also stole three bases. 

» Ben Ruta (New York Yankees): Ruta has played in five games for the Yankees during his first spring training with the big club... He made his spring debut on March 2 against the Pittsburgh Pirates... He was credited with his first stolen base against Baltimore on March 17. 
Wagner in 2018:
» The Green & White Seahawks are coming off a magical season, in which the ball club rewrote several records, including setting the new benchmark for wins in a single-season (38) and conference victories (21). 
» Wagner rattled off two separate, nine-game winning streaks (March 10-25 & March 29-April 11), outscoring its opponents by a combined 151-to-66. 
» The Seahawks concluded the 2018 season winning 13 of its final 17 contests to claim a share of the 2018 Northeast Conference (NEC) regular season championship, the first time program has done so since 2009. 
» Wagner went 13-1 in home contests (7-0 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George) while leading the entire NCAA with 23 road triumphs a season ago. 
» In the NEC, Wagner led the circuit in ERA (4.15) while finishing the regular season with a league-best .974 fielding percentage. The club ranked second in hits (505), total bases (751) and stolen bases (61). 
» Individually, Wagner had a program-high six all-league selections, four of which being named to the First Team, which includes rising senior left-hander, Neil Abbatiello, junior reliever, Nick Robino and classmate, Freddy Sabido, who returns as the team's leader in most offensive categories. 
» Head Coach Jim Carone, who embarks on his eighth season, was named NEC Coach of the Year for the second time in his career, becoming the first Wagner baseball head coach to win the award multiple times.
» Robino was named 2019 Collegiate Baseball Pre-Season All-American, powered by Diamond Sports and announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper back on December 18, 2018. 
» Wagner was picked third in the preseason coaches' poll that was announced back on February 1.

» Wagner resumes NEC play when the Seahawks travel to New Britain, CT to square off against the Central Connecticut Blue Devils in a three-game set, beginning on March 29.
