Sophomore Emily Pereira had a month to remember, highlighted by turning in a first-place performance in the 800-meter run at the 2013 Northeast Conference Championships contested at Monmouth University on May 4-5. In beating the field with a then career-best time of 2:13.75, Pereira posted a particularly satisfying win as she was coming off a second-place finish in the 800 meters during the 2013 NEC Indoor Championships. Pereira then helped the Seahawk 4x800 team place third in a time of 9:29.32. Pereira was joined on the 4x800 team by her twin sister Kelly Pereira, Alexis Bivona, and Cameo Kirk. Pereira picked up where she left off the following weekend, delivering arguably the most impressive performance by a Wagner athlete at the ECAC & IC4A Championships, which was hosted by Princeton University. Facing a deep and talented field, Pereira set a school record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.15, which gave her a 16^th-place finish. This blistering time bettered the sophomore’s previous career-best which was achieved the week before at the NEC Championships. The 2:10.15 was also the fastest 800 meters run in the NEC this season, shattering the previous 2013 high by four seconds.
