For the month of January, redshirt sophomore Taylah Simmons continued her scoring prowess, averaging a team-leading 17.9 ppg, to go along with 5.3 rebounds a contest in 30.0 minutes played per game. In eight games, seven of which she started, the Melbourne, Australia native shot an efficient 57.3 percent from the field and converted over 78.0 percent from the free-throw line. For the month, Simmons scored in double-figures in every game, and even elevated her performance a notch, recording back-to-back 20-point outings, both in front of the home crowd, as she netted a then career-high 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting against Fairleigh Dickinson (1/14/19), leading the Green & White to an impressive 71-59 win. Five days later, against Mount St. Mary's at the Spiro Sports Center, Simmons continued to shine, leading all scorers with 28 points while converting on 75.0 percent of her field goal opportunities (9-of-12). Additionally, the second-year Seahawk hit on 10-of-13 from the free throw line in her 26 minutes of play. Over the recently completed three-game road trip, in which Wagner faced off against the top two schools in the Northeast Conference (NEC) [Sacred Heart and Robert Morris], Simmons led the Seahawk offense, averaging 16.0 ppg while shooting 56.4 percent from the floor in 29.0 mpg. Her best performance over the three-day stint came at defending league champions, Saint Francis U (1/28/19), in which Simmons went for 19 points, 13 of which came in the second quarter alone.Â
