Sophomore distance runner James Naglieri (Stony Point, NY/ North Rockland) has been named the Bridge Financial Group Wagner College Male Athlete of the Month for January after having a record-breaking beginning of the year. Naglieri ran to a first-place finish in the 5,000 meters at the METS Championships on Friday, January 25, finishing the race in school record fashion, crossing the line in 14:52.33, which was 13 seconds ahead of the next-highest finisher. This effort marked the third-fastest 5,000 meters time ran in the Northeast Conference this season, placing him less than five seconds behind Khari Bowen of Monmouth, who has the NEC’s top time this year.. Naglieri also posted in eighth place finish in the Mile at the NYU Team Challenge on January 19, in 4:24.81, in addition to being a part of the 4x800 team that ran a season-best, and first place finishing time of 7:53.28. At the Monmouth Blue-White Invitational on January 5, Naglieri finished fourth in the mile, crossing the line in 4:24.12.
