No. 3 Baseball Prepped for No. 2 FDU to Open 2026 NEC Tournament

AUGUSTA, N.J. — Wagner secured the No. 3 seed in the 2026 NEC Tournament and now looks to take on No. 2 FDU on Thursday, May 21 at Skylands Stadium.

Held in Augusta, New Jersey, the tournament features No. 1 LIU, who won the regular season with a defeat of FDU to close out conference play, the Knights, the Seahawks and No. 4 Le Moyne.

The Tournament Field

Wagner is 6-3 in its games against the remaining three teams in the field this season, only losing its series to the Knights. The Seahawks swept Le Moyne and went 2-1 against the Sharks on the road.

The Seahawks enter postseason play at 28-22, finishing conference play with a 23-10 mark.

Seahawks at Skylands

The Seahawks, playing in four different "home" ballparks due to renovations being done at SIUH Community Park.

NEC play opened with three games at Jim Hynes '63 Stadium in Union, New Jersey, where Wagner went 1-2 in what was one of just two series losses this season.

From there, Wagner hosted six games at Skylands Stadium against Le Moyne and Norfolk State, going 6-0 in what were the only two series it swept this season. The Seahawks' offense was batting .360 across those two weekends, recording 31 hits against Le Moyne and 36 against Norfolk State.

Wagner had its lone game on Staten Island on April 28, a win over Saint Peter's that marked the only game of the season at the team's typical home park.

The 2026 regular season concluded at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark in Madison, New Jersey with Wagner hosting Mercyhurst at FDU's Division III Florham campus.

Wagner finishes 12-4 at home in 2026, playing 15 of those home games in the state of New Jersey. The Seahawks did play seven games in the state of New York, traveling to LIU for a weekend series and playing road midweek games at Fordham, St. John's and Army.

Heavy Hitters

Sophomore Hunter Ray of FDU, the newly-named NEC Player of the Year, has been a national talking point with the numbers to back it up. The outfielder is batting .352 in 51 games, with 77 hits and 75 RBIs that includes 28 home runs. Alongside Ray, sophomore Jonathan Gomez leads the Knights with a .376 batting average and a team-leading 76 runs scored. His 18 doubles tie Wagner's Dylan Immel for the NEC lead in the category.

The Knights have five hitters batting above .300 entering the tournament.

For Wagner, graduate Lukas Torres enters the weekend batting .419 with the No. 5 average in the country. His .544 on-base percentage currently ranks fifth. He leads the team with 80 hits this season, adding 49 walks. The ideal leadoff hitter, Torres has reached to then score 62 runs this season.

Junior Joseph Mennella is batting .369 coming into the tournament, leading the Seahawks with 13 of the team's 25 home runs. He has worked 40 walks, good for third of Wagner's hitters, and holds the single-season program record for RBIs with 63.

All-NEC Honors

Wagner landed a pair of All-NEC first-teamers in graduate Lukas Torres and junior Dylan Immel, while senior Colin Trizuto and junior Joseph Mennella earned spots on the second team, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

Ahead of the 2026 NEC Tournament, the NEC announced each team and the season's individual award winners. This is Wagner's second consecutive season to have multiple players earn a spot on the first team.

The Knights in 2026

Jim Hynes '63 Stadium, home of Kean University in Union, New Jersey, played host to the Seahawks in the series against FDU in early March to open conference play.

FDU opened the weekend with a 14-2, run-rule win in seven innings on Friday, March 6, then Wagner's offense roared back the next day to take a 13-6 win. The series finale went to extras on Sunday, with FDU taking an 8-6 win in ten innings to secure the series.

The Knights led the NEC from week five on, jumping to 5-1 after two weekends of conference play and holding that lead heading into week 14 of the season. FDU, though, head to host second place LIU as both teams entered the weekend with a 24-6 record.

LIU jumped out quick in the opener on Thursday, May 14, taking down the Knights 20-9. Returning on Friday and going 11 innings, the Sharks were able to take a 12-10 win to take the series and secure the top seed in the NEC Tournament.
