BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Wagner junior Joseph Mennella has been named the NEC Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
The junior went 10-for-17 in five games this week with nine runs scored with two doubles, three home runs and 12 RBIs. He logged three home runs in five days, with one at Lafayette (4/21) and two at UMES (4/24 and 4/25).
In the NEC, Mennella is seventh in batting average (.375), sixth in slugging (.639), ninth in OBP (0.489), fourth in OPS (1.128), seventh in hits (54), second in RBIs (52) and fifth in home runs.
He was 2-for-4 Tuesday at Lafayette with a pair of runs scored, an RBI and two walks, then went 2-for-4 at Princeton with two RBIs, a walk and a run scored. His sacrifice fly in the first gave Wagner a 1-0 lead, then he had the RBI single to kick off an eight-run eighth inning.
On Friday, Mennella was a perfect 2-for-2 in the opener at UMES with three RBI and two walks. He hit a solo home run in the sixth to break a five-run shutout. Mennella was 1-for-3 with three RBIs in game two and hit a three-run homer in the eighth. He closed out the weekend 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, batting in two runs and scoring three.
Alongside Mennella, graduate outfielder Lukas Torres was named a Prime Performer after a 10-for-19 week. His .438 batting average and 0.569 OBP lead the NEC, as well as sitting No. 5 and No. 2 in NCAA DI, respectively.
