PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — Riding a four game win streak and taking wins in its last two conference series, Wagner is looking to win a third on the road at UMES this weekend.
The Seahawks are now 14-7 in NEC play this season and just below .500 on the season, sitting at 18-19 entering the weekend. The win streak goes back to last weekend, featuring a 16-11 Wednesday win over Princeton, a 15-11 win on Tuesday over Lafayette, an 8-4 defeat of Stonehill on Sunday to win the series and a 12-5 win over the Skyhawks on Saturday to split a doubleheader that day.
Full game notes for the series can be found here.
Explosive in April
In the 16-11 win over Princeton, Wagner tied its season high run total, set on on Saturday, April 4 in a road game at CCSU. Wagner tied its single-game hit total for the season in Tuesday's game at Lafayette, matching the 17 it hit on April 10 in a home game against Le Moyne.
Sophomore Matt Sutera's triple on Wednesday against Princeton was the fourth by a Seahawk this season, the third in the month of April.
Wagner's eight stolen bases and five hit batters against Lafayette each set new single-game highs for the season.
The Seahawks have been explosive in the month of April, scoring 10+ runs in six of 12 total games this month. In the remaining six where the scoring was in the single digits, Wagner scored three runs in a pair of games but were high scoring in the other four — scoring nine in one game and eight runs in the remaining three. In the months of February and March combined, Wagner scored in double digits in just five games.
Scouting the Hawks
The Hawks' pitching has garnered attention from the NEC this season — freshman Richard De Jesus was named both Rookie of the Week and Pitcher of the Week on March 3 after throwing 5.1 scoreless against Manhattan. Senior teammate Jonathan Gonzalez Perez was named Co-Player of the Week on April 14, batting .333 in a series against Delaware State where he hit three home runs and totaled 10 RBIs.
Gonzalez Perez leads the team with a .333 average and 1.038 OPS, entering the weekend with 42 hits and 45 RBIs, which rank third in conference. Batting .305 for the Hawks, senior Julian Jimenez leads the NEC with four triples, but his 38 strikeouts are also third in conference. His 32 walks are second on the team as one of two Hawks with over 30 walks in 2026. Senior Ansel Carson's 38 walks rank third in conference, alongside his .302 batting average. Four UMES hitters are batting above .300 this season.
Most recently in the NEC, the Hawks hosted Mercyhurst in a series the Lakers ultimately swept, taking a pair of run-rule wins, including a 14-0 shutout in the opener. UMES is coming off a 7-3 loss on the road at Navy.
Wagner's Last Week Out
The Seahawks went into last weekend coming off an 18-8 midweek game at Army West Point that saw the Wagner offense uncharacteristically die after jumping out to a hot start and hanging with the Black Knights for four innings.
With rain in the area reshuffling the weekend series, Wagner opened play with Stonehill in a Saturday doubleheader. It was a pitching duel early, with both starters throwing a no hitter through three and a half innings. A massive performance from the Skyhawks' starter Jimmy Gilleran had the Seahawks scoring just two runs, falling 5-3 in the opener.
Redshirt sophomore Joseph Steventon came up big as Wagner's starter in the back half of the doubleheader, going 6.1 innings to protect the bullpen then handing the ball off to redshirt junior Braden Lowe, who threw the final 2.2 innings and allowed no hits. The Seahawks scored 12 runs on 13 hits to even up the series.
The Seahawks locked down the series in game three, scoring eight runs across six innings while allowing Stonehill to score just solo runs in four frames. The offense picked up in dominant midweek wins, the only time this season the Seahawks play two in a week.
It was a 15-11 win at Lafayette where Wagner exploded first in the first inning with six runs, then came back at the end of the game to score eight runs in the final five innings. A 16-11 win at Princeton was Wagner's final game before the weekend, another steady scoring effort where the Seahawks pushed a run across in six innings.
Seahawk Leaders
Lowe has been massively efficient in his last two outings, combined for 4.0 scoreless innings pitched and just one hit in appearances at Stonehill and Princeton.
Senior Justin Roitman has been huge as Wagner's Sunday starter, going 6.0 innings in each of his last two starts and tying the team's season high strikeout total at eight.
Graduate Lukas Torres had a bit of a quiet weekend at the plate against the Skyhawks, posting back-to-back hitless games for the first time in 2026. The outfielder is now batting .429 this season, first for Wagner and good for second in the NEC. His 0.564 OBP and 40 walks lead the conference and he is second in hits (57) and third in runs scored (46). The two hitless games did not affect Torres for long — he is 5-for-10 in the last three games.
Junior Dylan Immel hit his 14th double of the season at Princeton, good for third in the NEC, hitting doubles in back-to-back games for the second time this season. His .379 average is second of the Seahawks behind Torres. Juniors Joseph Mennella and Diego Tavarez, batting .356 and .353, respectively, join Torres and Immel as the four Wagner hitters batting above .300. Sophomore Matt Sutera is just behind at .292 heading into the weekend.
