Baseball Riding Four-Game Win Streak Heading into New Haven Series

WEST HAVEN, Conn. — Wagner has won for straight as it hits the road to take on New Haven, earning its first series sweep and first midweek win of 2026 prior to taking on the Chargers.

Currently on a four-game win streak, Wagner will take on the 1-15 Chargers for the first time since New Haven joined the NEC.

New to the NEC

The Chargers are 1-5 in conference play, behind by three games after their first NEC series against Stonehill had to be canceled due to unplayable field conditions. Per NEC policy, that series will not be rescheduled.

New Haven has since played Le Moyne, going 1-2 against the Dolphins with a 13-6 win in its first NEC game. A trip to Teaneck, New Jersey saw the Chargers swept by a red-hot, conference-leading FDU team. Through the remainder of the season, New Haven will host LIU, Delaware State and UMES.

Scouting the Chargers

New Haven's hitters are led by junior Jake Russo, batting .371 with 12 games started. The catcher has 13 hits with five doubles. Behind Russo are freshman Jaylin Manson and senior Casey Cerruto — the only other Chargers batting above .300 — batting .33 and .311, respectively.

No New Haven pitcher has gone more than an inning pitched in each appearance this season, currently holding a 13.00 team ERA that is 11th of 12 teams in the NEC. Junior Jace Vanvalkneberg holds a 4.15 ERA in six appearances to lead the team, logging that across 8.2 innings pitched where he allowed four runs on six hits. Opponents are batting .200 against the righty.

Senior Mason Glickman, with 15.2 innings of work, leads the Chargers in innings pitched, but also has allowed 27 runs and 27 hits to sit at a 12.64 ERA entering the weekend. Four Chargers have double-digit strikeouts, led by sophomore Carson Morgan and junior Vincent Fusco with 12.

NEC Recognition

Senior righty Colin Trizuto was named NEC Pitcher of the Week for week six of the season, throwing 8.0 scoreless innings in the March 20 opener against Le Moyne where he allowed no hits and no walks.

The seven-strikeout performance marked a new career high for the senior and a new high by any single Wagner pitcher this season.

Redshirt sophomore Joseph Steventon and graduate Lukas Torres were named Prime Performers alongside Trizuto. Steventon went 7.0 innings in game two against the Dolphins, allowing one run on five hits and striking out eight. Torres was 6-for-10 in four games, scoring seven runs in the series against Le Moyne.

Pitching Success

After having to take the time to reshape the weekend rotation and wait on relief arms to settle in, Wagner's pitching seemed to finally show its full potential against Le Moyne. The Seahawks held the Dolphins to zero and one run in the opening pair of games, striking out double-digit batters for the first time in 2026.

The 10 strikeouts in the opener set a new single-game season high, broken in Saturday's game by 13 strikeouts combined from Steventon and junior Keith Davis. Steventon's eight strikeouts set a new high from Trizuto's seven.

Ten of the 13 pitchers Wagner used across four games against Le Moyne and Fordham shut out their opponent.

In the Box

Torres, with six hits in the last week, is batting .400 in 21 games this season. Of his 28 hits, Torres has seven doubles and a triple with 22 walks to just five strikeouts. His 0.543 OBP is third in conference.

Junior Dylan Immel's .407 leads the Seahawks, rising back above .400 after a 3-of-4 game against Fordham. His 10 doubles this season are second in the NEC.

Just behind that pair, juniors Joseph Mennella and Diego Tavarez are batting .348 and .328, respectively as Wagner's other pair of hitters above .300 this season. Sophomore Jayden Alvarez is just off the threshold, batting .297 through 17 games.

The opener at Frank Vieira Field will be a 3 p.m. EDT first pitch on Friday, March 27. Games two and three of the series will begin at 1 p.m. EDT.
