Men's Lacrosse Set For Conference Opener At LIU On Saturday

- The Wagner men's lacrosse team opens Northeast Conference (NEC) play on Saturday at LIU with faceoff set for 12:00 p.m. at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

   
LAST TIME OUT…
  • The Seahawks dominated Mercer in a 13-4 victory last Saturday at Hameline Field for their second straight win, moving to 2-3 on the season.
  • Wagner posted a season-high in goals (13), assists (6), and points (19) in the win.
  • Six different Seahawks found the back of the net. Stephen Dwyer and Aidan Clark netted four goals; Patrick Caldwell scored twice; Eli Fisher, Carson Skinner, and Brendan Higgins tallied a goal as well.
  • Goalkeeper Danny Brady recorded 11 saves in net.
 
WAGNER NOTES…
  • The Seahawks have won two straight games for the first time since March 2019.
  • The Green & White's nine goal margin of victory is the most since a 15-3 showing over Hampton on March 19, 2018.
  • Wagner's defense has allowed less than 10 goals the last three games. The last time this happened was in March 2017, when the Seahawks held opponents to single-digit scoring in four straight games.
  • With four goals and two assists through five games, Jack Brady has recorded a point in every game for the Green & White this season.
 
  • NATIONAL RECOGNITION
    • Goalkeeper Danny Brady was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division I Team of the Week.
 

 
  • NEC RECOGNITION
    • Stephen Dwyer, Aidan Clark, and Danny Cassidy were named Week 6 NEC Prime Performers. This is Clark's second Prime Performer recognition on the season, while Dwyer and Cassidy have earned the honor for the first time this year.
 
  • NATIONAL RANKS
    • Goalkeeper Danny Brady is 10th in the nation and first among NEC netminders in goals against average (9.23).
    • Defender Matt Morris ranks tied for ninth in the country with 2 caused turnovers per game.
 
  • DWYER DOMINANCE
    • Stephen Dwyer netted a season-high four goals last Saturday against Mercer. The senior now has five career four-goal games. 
    • The Somerville, NJ native is the lone Seahawk to find the back of the net in every game this season. Dwyer now has four multi-goal games this season and 14 for his career.
 
  • PENALTY EFFICIENCY 
    • Wagner leads all NEC teams in penalty killing percentage, penalties per game, and penalty minutes per game.
    • The Seahawks have allowed just one goal while being a man down this season, good for a penalty kill rate of 87.5%.
    • The Green & White have taken nine penalties this season, averaging 1.8 per game.
 
  • MOVING UP THE ALL-TIME PROGRAM RANKS
    • Dwyer now has 50 career goals at Wagner, tying Jeff Policicchio for eighth place on the all-time goals list.
    • With 266 career saves as a Seahawk, netminder Danny Brady sits in fifth place all-time on Wagner's saves list.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: LIU…
  • LIU was picked to finish fourth in the NEC Coaches' Preseason Poll.
  • The Sharks enter Saturday's game at 3-4 on the season, having lost three straight contests.
  • Blake Behlen leads LIU with 16 goals and 23 points.
  • Richie LaCalandra is second on the team with 21 points and leads the Sharks with 12 assists.
  • Goalkeeper Will Mark has made 92 saves in cage this season and is posting a 10.07 goals against average through seven games.  
 
SERIES HISTORY…
  • Saturday's matchup marks the third all-time meeting between the Seahawks and the Sharks, with the series split.
  • Wagner took the first meeting ever on February 15, 2020, in Brookville, winning 9-8 in overtime. Stephen Dwyer scored the game-tying goal with 20 seconds left and then the game-winning goal in the overtime period. Tyler Lawton also added a goal in that game.
  • LIU won last year's matchup on Grymes Hill, 19-8, in the season opener.
