Jacob Wood Named to Inaugural Class of Coach Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award Recipients

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. — Wagner College men's lacrosse sophomore defender Jacob Wood was named to the inaugural class for the Coach Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award, announced by the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMCLA) on Wednesday.

Each NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Program selected a student-athlete from their respective team to receive the Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award at the conclusion of the 2026 season. Voted on by players, coaches, and staff, this honor is awarded to the individual on the roster whose teammates most aspire to emulate.

Liam Gleason was the 10th head coach in Siena Lacrosse history. Hired on June 26, 2018, Gleason led the Saints for seven seasons (2019-25) until his tragic passing on Dec. 3, 2025 at the age of 41.

Gleason earned both ECAC and MAAC Coach of the Year honors after leading Siena to the program's fourth MAAC Tournament Championship. In 2025, Siena achieved an 11-5 overall record and claimed a share of the MAAC Regular Season title with a 7-1 league mark, securing the program's first national ranking in 14 seasons.

"Jake exemplifies what it means to be a great teammate each and every day. His selflessness shows through on and off the field," commented Coach Fox. "He has a unique ability to pick guys up when they're down, as well as continues to push teammates forward after their success. His tireless work ethic continues to help the team and program grow everyday. Jake is a tremendous example of the positive qualities you look for in not only players, but all people."

The Liam Gleason Humanitarian Award, established in January 2026 by family members, former coaches, and friends close to Liam, honors its inaugural group of recipients exemplifying leadership, unwavering support for teammates and staff, outstanding sportsmanship, and meaningful community involvement.

The program will provide the opportunity for Coach Gleason's legacy to live on for years to come, something for his family and children to witness. "Being a light in the world means spreading kindness, love, and positivity to those around you – helping dispel darkness and negativity. Simple acts of compassion can illuminate the lives of others and inspire them to do the same. Liam was that light in the world, and even though his physical presence is gone, his light continues to shine," said Sue Gleason.

Wood, a finance major from Marlton, New Jersey, earned the distinction for the Seahawks in the list's inaugural year. Wood finished the fall 2025 semester with a 3.5 GPA, and represents one of 77 student-athletes who were selected to earn the honor.
