Theo Kostakos Buries OT Game-Winner Against Le Moyne; Seahawks Prevail 8-7

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Graduate student Theo Kostakos found the back of the net 57 seconds into the first overtime period against Le Moyne in an exciting 8-7 win on Saturday on Hameline Field.

The Seahawks (5-6, 3-2 NEC) led 3-1 after the opening quarter. Junior Damon Clark notched two scores in between a senior Jake Mitchell score. For Clark, the North Brunswick, New Jersey native scored his third and fourth goals of the year in the first.

With Mitchell's first quarter goal, the captain from St. Louis, Missouri became the fourth Seahawk in program history to eclipse the 100-point mark during a career.

The Dolphins (3-10, 2-3 NEC) outscored the Seahawks 2-1 in the second to make it a 4-3 game in favor of Wagner at the half.

Senior Smith Callaghan notched the Green & White's lone goal of the period, assisted by freshman Dylan Popehn.

Le Moyne utilized an effective third period to take a 7-4 lead after the third quarter. The Dolphins scored four goals while holding the Seahawks scoreless during the frame.

Wagner responded with a 3-0 fourth quarter, punctured by a Mitchell score off of a ground ball pickup with 19 seconds to play. Junior Danny McMahon and sophomore Jacob Bass found the back of the net in the fourth as well.

For Bass, the Wake Forest, North Carolina native netted his first of the season in a huge spot during the game.

In the overtime period, Wagner started with possession thanks to a Le Moyne unnecessary roughness at the end of the fourth. The Seahawks converted on their second shot attempt of extra time.

Jake Mitchell found Theo Kostakos who sniped the top right corner of the goal to lift the Seahawks over the Dolphins, 8-7.

Defensively, junior Angus Snow recorded 12 saves and his fifth win of the season. Junior Dylan Dwyer collected four ground balls, going 9-15 (60.0%) in the day in the face-off.

Senior Tristan McMahon and junior Terry Farrell both corralled four ground balls while Farrell earned one caused turnover.

As a team, Wagner attempted 39 shots with 29 ground balls while Le Moyne took 34 shots with 24 ground balls recovered.

With the win, the Seahawks take sole possession of fourth place in the NEC standings.

Next up, the Green & White take on conference member VMI on Saturday, April 18. The start time between the Seahawks and the Keydets is set for noon on Drill Field #2.
