Lakewood, NJ -  After winning two of three in the Northeast Conference (NEC) opener at Fairleigh Dickinson last weekend, the Wagner baseball team opens up a three-game series against Sacred Heart at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, NJ this afternoon.
 
SCHEDULE ALERT: 
 
  • The two teams will kickoff the series as scheduled today at 3:00 p.m. from FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, NJ
  • The Seahawks and Pioneers will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 27 to close out the series with first-pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Saturday's twinbill will both be nine innings contests.

Last Time Out For Wagner...
  • The Seahawks closed out its first weekend of conference action by winning the series finale, 6-4, against FDU. 
  • In the victory, head coach Jim Carone earned his 200th career win
  • Wagner outscored Fairleigh Dickinson, 26-14, over the three-game series, highlighted by a 17-3 rout in the series opener last Friday.  
  • Jared Gillen powered the Seahawks offense, batting .353 (6 for 17) with four runs scored, two doubles and a team-high six RBI. 
  • Mike Ruggiero scored five runs over the three-game set at FDU to lead Wagner
  • Freshman Jake Lutz, who started in two of the three games, batted .571 (4 for 7) with two runs scored and posted a .625 on-base percentage. 
  • Ryan Lauk, who earned the win in the 17-3 triumph, struck out eight batters and didn't give up a hit until the fifth inning. 

Against Sacred Heart...
  • Wagner holds a 39-38 edge in the all-time series against the Pioneers.
  • The Seahawks have won the last two meetings against SHU, after picking up an 11-7 triumph over the Pios back on May 24, 2019 in the second day of the NEC Championship. 
  • Wagner is 9-1 in its last ten meetings against Sacred Heart, with the last loss coming on April 6, 2019 in Bridgeport, CT (11-8 in game two). 
 
 
About The Pioneers...
  • Sacred Heart has played 17 games thus far this season and are looking to extend their winning streak to three after picking up a 10-4 home win over Fordham on Wednesday afternoon. 
  • Against the Rams, three Pioneers had multi-hit performances, led by Danny Glendon, who went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI. 
  • Austin Markmann collected two hits and drove in a team-high four RBI.
  • Markmann, Glendon and Elijah Brown homered in the win. 
  • Glendon leads the Pioneers with .313 batting while Markmann paces the club with a team-high nine RBI. 
  • On the rubber, Brendan Coffey has three saves and hasn't given up a run in his six appearances this season. 
  • Cooper Thompson (0-2, 4.40) leads the SHU arms with 17 strikeouts.
