Macon, GA – The Wagner College men's lacrosse team continues non-conference play on the road Saturday, February 29, when the Seahawks take on the Mercer University Bears nearly 900 miles south of Staten Island for an 11:00 a.m. opening face-off.
Wagner-Mercer History:
The Bears have won each of the four previous match-ups. In the teams' last contest in 2017, Mercer won 6-5 in a game that featured five ties and neither team leading by more than one goal at any point.
Last Time Out For Wagner:
The Seahawks fell to Monmouth 9-5 last Tuesday on a rainy, foggy day. Five different players scored one goal each for Wagner:
Stephen Dwyer,
Jake Garb,
Nic Ancona,
Tyler Lawton and
Matt McAnaney.
Danny Brady made nine saves in net.
Freshmen Firepower:
Garb, Lawton and
Mikey Vanaman are first, second and tied for fourth, respectively, on the team in points through the first quarter of the season. Garb and Lawton, who have both scored at least one goal in all four games thus far, share the team lead with seven goals apiece.
About Mercer:
The Bears have averaged 23 goals in their two home wins this season, including a 28-6 win over Hampton last Saturday. Sean Goldsmith leads the team with 14 goals, more than twice as many as anyone else on the Mercer roster. Michael Quinn is second on the team with five goals and third on the team with eight points, Will McCarthy has a team-high seven assists and ranks second with 10 points.

The Seahawks will be back at Hameline Field on Saturday, March 7 for their final Northeast Conference (NEC) tune-up against the Hartford Hawks with opening face-off set for 12:00 p.m.
