Cary, NC -
Freshman Cody Bey delivered what turned out to be the only run of the game as his RBI grounder in the top of the third lifted the Wagner baseball team past Penn State, 1-0, in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Center.

Senior right-hander Ryan Lauk threw six shutout innings in earning his first win of the season. The Mullica Hill, NJ native matched his career-high with seven strikeouts while issuing just one walk and three hits.

Newcomer Henry Martinez produced three hits out of the leadoff spot while Bey along with juniors Ben Montenegro and AJ Medrano also recorded base hits.

Justin Williams led the way at the plate for the Nittany Lions with two hits.

Junior Ben Montenegro led off the third with a single to center and advanced to second after Medrano grounded out to third. Martinez got his second hit of the game, sending on to left that gave Wagner runners on the corner.

On the first-pitch of the at-bat, Bey sent a grounder to short and hustled down-the-line to beat out the throw as Montenegro crossed the plate. In the bottom half of the inning, Penn State was able to get back-to-back two outs hits but Lauk was able to get Ryan Ford to line out to short to end the threat.

Lauk retired the next ten batters before handing the ball to LaPointe, who gave up a double down the right field line to Curtis Robinson as that was the final hit for Penn State in the contest.

Somerset, NJ - Senior Freddy Sabido of the Wagner baseball team claimed the season's first Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week award, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

For Sabido, this marks the third time in his Seahawk career that he has earned the weekly accolade, as he closed out the 2019 campaign earning the final Player of the Week honor as well as collecting the citation back on April 2, 2018.

In all, the announcement marks his fifth weekly award, as he also was a two-time Rookie of the Week award winner.

Sabido capped off his three-RBI performance on Opening Day with a two-run single with one out in the ninth that tied the game at 10-10 before Wagner went on to take an 11-10 victory.
