Baseball Blanked By Penn State In Game Two

Cary, NC - In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, the Wagner baseball team was defeated 11-0 by Penn State.  The Seahawks were limited to just a hit on the day as Kyle Virbitsky tossed six scoreless innings in in picking up the win. 

Newcomer Cody Bey, who had the lone RBI in game one, recorded the only hit for the Seahawks in the second game. Penn State was led by Johnny Piacentino and Gavin Homer as Piacentino went 4 for 4 with five RBI and three runs scored. Homer went 3 for 3, with a run scored and four RBI. 

Wagner starter Pat Gallagher took the loss after going three frames in which he allowed just two runs on five hits while striking out one and walking three. Left-hander Brandon Demma gave up six runs in 1.1 innings of walk. Dallen Turner made his Seahawk debut, going 1.2 innings, giving up three unearned runs on two hits while walking two and striking out one 

In the bottom of the fourth, Homer cleared the bases with a triple to right center before coming into score on a throwing error by the Seahawk shortstop that made it 5-0. Penn State added three more in the fifth as Piacentino sent an RBI single to center and crossed the plate on a two-run RBI base knock by Homer that made it 8-0. Piacentino capped off his day at the plate with a three-run home run to left in the bottom of the sixth. 

Wagner and Penn State concludes the weekend series in North Carolina on Sunday morning, with first-pitch slated for 11 a.m.
