North Andover, MA  –  The Wagner College women's basketball team gears up for its first-ever meeting with the newest member of the Northeast Conference (NEC), the Merrimack College Warriors, on Saturday afternoon. 

 
Last Time Out For Wagner: 
  • The Wagner College women's basketball team fell to Robert Morris, 77-35, Monday night at the Spiro Sports Center. 
  • Senior forward Jordan Hobson led the way for the Seahawks, netting nine points in 20 minutes of action. Junior guard/forward Khaleah Edwards tallied seven points while grabbing a team-best four caroms. 
  • The Colonials were paced by three players scoring in double-figures, led by rkepitan Ozzy-Momodu, who finished with 23 point, 15 rebound double-double, seven of those rebounds coming on the offensive glass. Isabella Posset scored 14 points while Honoka Ikematsu finished with ten points. Esther Castedo dished out a team-high seven assists in 26 minutes of action. 
  • For the second time against the defending league champions, the Seahawks were able to keep RMU's top-scorer, Nneka Ezeigbo, at bay, as she scored six points from the field while grabbing three boards in nine minutes of action. 
  • Ezeigbo, who entered play averaging 14.1 points per game, managed just seven total points in the two contests against Wagner (3.5 points per game) with an average of 5.0 rebounds a game in just 14.5 minutes a game. 

About The Merrimack College Warriors:
  • The Warriors are currently 15-8 overall and 8-4 in league play, despite not being eligible for the postseason due to NCAA reclassifying regulations. 
  • Merrimack is on a three-game winning streak after picking up an 84-66 road victory at Fairleigh Dickinson back on Monday evening. 
  • Denia Davis-Stewart is leading the NEC in three categories, as she is averaging 18.3 ppg, 13.3 rpg and 4.3 blocks per contest. 
  • Kate Mager is pacing the circuit in three-point field goal shooting at 44.6 percent and has converted a league-high 62 three-point field goals. 
  • As a whole, Merrimack is averaging league-highs in points 68.6 ppg, three-point field goal percentage (36.5%), three-point field goal percentage defense (26.7%), blocked shots (6.3) and assists per game (14.6). 
  • The Warriors are second in the conference in second in scoring defense (60.0 ppg), scoring margin (+8.6), field-goal percentage (40.0%), field goal percentage defense (35.5%). 
     


Coach Jacobs, Flynn, Jackson Return To Hammel:
  • Fourth-year head coach Heather Jacobs leads Wagner into its first-ever meeting with new Northeast Conference (NEC) member, Merrimack, this afternoon.
  • This is not the first time that Coach Jacobs has made the trip to North Andover, MA.
  • As head coach of Adelphi, Coach Jacobs posted a 4-2 record in six all-time meetings.
  • The last time that Coach Jacobs picked up a victory at Merrimack was back on January 3, 2012, as her Adelphi Panthers gritted out a 70-63 win. 
  • Additionally, this is a return trip for assistant coaches Tara Flynn and Sade Jackson, who played for Jacobs at Adelphi.


Looking At The Previous Five:
  • Wagner is 2-3 in its last five games.
  • The Green & White are hitting at a 36.7 percent clip from the field over the last five games while draining 30.6 percent from three-point range and shooting a blistering 89.7 percent from the free-throw line (52 of 58). 
  • The Seahawks are holding opponents to just 23.0 percent shooting from the outside during this span. 
  • Wagner is dishing out 12.6 assists per contest over its last five matches. 
  • Sophomore forward Emilija Krista Grava continues her stellar sophomore campaign, averaging 20.2 ppg to go along with 5.4 rpg while shooting 53.0 percent rom the floor and is 20 of 20 from the charity stripe. 


Saturday Hoops:
  • The Green & White are 4-5 in Saturday contests. 
  • Three Seahawks are scoring in double-figures, led by Krista Grava, who is averaging 14.9 ppg while shooting 51.0 percent from the floor and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line. 
  • Freshman Alex Cowan has netted 10.7 ppg, 4.4 rpg, and 3.0 apg in 32.8 mpg.
  • Junior Khaleah Edwards rounds out the trio, pouring in 10.5 ppg while grabbing 4.5 rpg in 30.8 minutes of action.  
  • As a whole, Wagner is tallying 61.3 ppg on Saturdays, while hitting on 37.5 percent of its shots from the field while converting at a 79.7 percent clip at the charity stripe. 
  • The Seahawks have forced 20.8 turnovers on Saturdays and have averaged 14.3 apg during these games.

  • The Seahawks will host Mount St. Mary's on Monday, February 17.
