STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The fourth-seeded Wagner College women's basketball team dropped its NEC quarterfinal game to the fifth-seeded Le Moyne Dolphins by a score of 54-47 at the Spiro Sports Center on Monday night.
The Seahawks (13-17, 9-9 NEC) started the game trailing 5-0 at the first media timeout, but responded with a 13-6 run to close out the opening frame.
Wagner shot 3-4 (75.0%) from beyond-the-arc in the first quarter. Wagner held a 13-11 lead after one. The Dolphins (12-20, 9-9 NEC) outscored the Seahawks 6-2 in points in the paint.
After an even 14-14 second quarter, Wagner held a 27-25 lead heading into the half. Senior Irene Fernandez de Caleya scored seven of her team-high 13 points in the period. The Dolphins shot 7-10 (70.0%) from the free throw line while the Seahawks shot 1-8 (12.5%) from the charity stripe in the second.
At the half, Fernandez de Caleya led Wagner with nine while sophomore Keana Foz added four.
Le Moyne took the lead two minutes into the second half and finished the quarter with a 18-9 advantage. At the end of the third, the Dolphins led 43-36. Le Moyne shot 6-14 (42.9%) in the third while Wagner shot 3-15 (20.0%).
In the fourth, Wagner cut a nine-point lead down to just one with 1:13 remaining, but a huge three-point field goal from Le Moyne's Sydney Postell forced the Seahawks down two-possessions.
In the end, the fifth-seeded Dolphins upset the fourth-seeded Seahawks by a final score of 54-47 in the quarterfinal round of the 2025-26 NEC Tournament.
As a team, the Seahawks shot 8-22 (36.4%) from the free throw line while the Dolphins — a team that came into the game with the highest free throw percentage in the conference — shot 15-18 (83.3%) from the free throw line.
Junior Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor scored all 10 of her points in the second half to follow up Fernandez de Caleya's 13 points. Foz finished with seven points while redshirt junior Klea Kaci nailed two threes for six points.
Wagner concludes its 2025-26 season with a 13-17 overall record and a 9-9 mark in NEC play, with the Seahawks hosting an NEC Tournament game for the first time since 2021-22.
