Tara Flynn

Tara Flynn embarks on her fourth season as a member of the Wagner College women’s basketball staff, serving as an assistant coach.

Flynn assisted in guiding the Seahawks to their first postseason appearance in five years while the team doubled up its conference win total from the previous season.

Flynn helped mentor the 2017-18 Seahawks to several top-five rankings among the Northeast Conference (NEC), which includes being ranked second in the circuit in three-point field percentage defense. Wagner was third in rebounding defense, fourth in field goal percentage defense while ranking fifth in both scoring defense and rebounding margin.

Before accepting the assistant coaching position as a member of Coach Jacobs’ staff, Flynn spent the 2016-17 campaign at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. In her one season at Stevens, she helped guide the Ducks to the Empire 8 regular season championship, as Stevens finished the year with a 16-10 overall record and league-best, 14-2, conference mark.

Flynn oversaw the development of Kailtyn Astel and Megan Brown, who were recognized at season’s end by D3Hooops.com. Astel was named an Honorable Mention All-American and was named to the publication’s All-East Region First Team while Brown garnered All-East Region Second Team accolades.

Flynn’s first foray into the coaching profession came when she served as the director of the United Basketball Camp, which is based out of North Hunterdon, NJ. At the United Basketball Camp, Flynn has held roles as both head and assistant coach with the United Basketball AAU team.

A native of Bayonne, NJ, Flynn attended Adelphi University, where she was a four-year player under Coach Jacobs. At Adelphi, Flynn racked up close to 500 career points in over 100 games while leading the Panthers to an 84-37 combined record and four Northeast-10 (NE-10) championship appearances. Flynn steered Adelphi to the NE-10 title and clinched a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament back in 2014-15, as the Panthers finished the season with a 28-4 overall record.

In 2015-16, Flynn’s senior season, the gritty, 5-6 guard set a school-record with seven three-pointers against American International back on February 28 en route to finishing with a team-high 21 points. Flynn was a four-year member of the NE-10 Academic Honor Roll.

Before enrolling at Adelphi, Flynn was a standout at Bayonne High School. She helped lead the Bees to three straight conference championships while earning Honorable Mention All-State honors her junior and senior season. Not only was Flynn a member of the National Honor Society, she graduated in the Top-Five percent of her class.
