Staten Island, NY – Following wins over Quinnipiac and Colgate, the Wagner women's lacrosse team will look to extend its winning streak to three on Sunday, March 10 when the Seahawks host the UMass Lowell Riverhawks in a 1:00 p.m. first-draw at Hameline Field.
The Green & White will bring a 3-2 record into Sunday's play, while their counterparts from the America East Conference are 3-4 on the season.
The Seahawks and the Riverhawks have faced two common opponent in Colgate on Iona. On February 23, UMass Lowell dropped a 12-9 home decision to the Red Raiders while Wagner is coming off a rousing 12-11 come-from-behind home victory over Colgate on March 3. On March 2, UMass Lowell earned a 15-8 win over an Iona team that Wagner beat 14-4 back on February 13.
In Wagner's two wins last week, a 17-5 decision at Quinnipiac, followed two days later by the win over Colgate, sophomore midfielder
Erin Kerstetter turned in a pair of dominant performances. In the victory at Quinnipiac, the 5'1" speed merchant from South Jersey poured in four goals, which tied her career-best, while hustling her way to a career-high eight draw controls.
In addition, the diminutive dynamo scooped up two ground balls in the 12-goal win. Against Colgate, Kerstetter was again seemingly all over the field, darting her way to another eight draw controls, giving her a staggering 16 DCs combined in the two wins. In the victory over Colgate, Kerstetter added three ground balls and two caused turnovers. For the season, the Shamong, NJ native and former Seneca High School standout, is now averaging 6.0 draw controls per game on 30 DCs in five contests, a figure that ranks No. 19 in the nation.
For her efforts last week, Kerstetter was named an NECPrimerPerformer, along with junior defender
Lindsay Haas, who also played a key role in Wagner's two wins last week.
In the 12-goal victory over Quinnipiac, the Ridgewood, NJ native had two caused turnovers and one ground bal, before following that effort with three caused turnovers and two ground balls in the victory over Colgate. In the two wins combined, the defensive stalwart amassed five caused turnovers and three ground balls.
The Seahawks are paced in scoring by senior attack
Anna Belle Reilly (10g,4a-14 pts) who, recorded a hat trick in win over Colgate, was joined by junior attack
Stephanie Falcone, in the three-goal club that afternoon. Kerstetter's 11 points (9g, 2a-11 pts) rank second on the team in scoring while three players are tie for third in scoring, at 10 points each, in Falcone (9g, 1a), along with sophomore midfielders
Madeline Seims (10g), and
Victoria Tucci (7g, 3a).
While Kerstetter's 30 draw controls make her the, far and away, team leader in DCs, senior Maggie Dent leads the team in caused turnovers with eight, followed closely by Haas (7) and senior defender
Maddie Courtney, whose 16 ground balls are a team best.
In goal, redshirt senior
Kelsey Fee, the
Northeast Conference's first Defensive Player of the Week this season back on February 18, has a 10.71 goals against average and .457 save percentage. Freshman
Lauren DiStefano recorded the first 19:46 of playing time in her young career, during the second-half surge over Colgate.
