Coming off a breakout season where she was named to the 2018 All-NEC First Team, Maddie Courtney is one of the top returning talents in the league who will again look to lead the Seahawk defense in 2019.

2018: Contributed to the NEC Championship team by starting in 18 of the 19 games in which she played … Finished second on team  with 49 grounds balls and tied for second in caused turnovers with 26 … Collected a career-high six groundballs vs. Stetson (3/8) … Five groundballs vs. Saint Joseph’s (3/24) and four turnovers in three other games … Came up with a season-high three caused turnovers vs. Saint Joseph’s (3/24) and Robert Morris (5/3).

2017: Played and started in 19 games throughout the season … Collected season high of five groundballs on two occasions - vs. Hofstra (2/21) and vs. Saint Francis U (4/7) - contributing to her total of 35 for the season … Contributed 32 caused turnovers, with a season high of five vs. Saint Francis U (4/7) … Those 32 caused turnovers ranked No. 2 on the team while those 35 ground balls ranked No. 3 among all Seahawks …Came up with a total of 19 draw controls (No. 4 on the team), with four coming vs. Bucknell (2/25).

2016: Saw action in 19 games with 17 starts for the 2016 NEC Champions … Team’s leading returner in ground balls with 35 … Ranked second overall on the 2016 NEC title team in ground balls behind only All-NEC performer, Shea Gegan … Credited with eight groundballs, including a season-high two vs. Columbia (3/30).

Before Wagner: Played at Marriotts Ridge High School under Amanda Brady where she was a three-year varsity competitor … Two-Time State Champion … 2015 First-Team All-County … Led the team in ground balls and forced turnovers … Named the Coaches Award recipient her junior year … Participated in basketball and field hockey as well … Named Leadership Award recipient in basketball her senior season … Member of the 2014 County Champion Field Hockey squad … Mustang Award winner for excellence in academics … Brother, Kyle, plays lacrosse at Furman.
