New Britain, CT – The Wagner men's lacrosse team takes to the road on Saturday when the Seahawks meet the Sacred Heart Pioneers in Northeast Conference (NEC) play in a 1:00 p.m. start at Campus Field.

Both teams are coming off hard-fought defeats. On April 7, the Seahawks took a 3-1 halftime lead at Bryant before the Bulldogs rallied for an 8-3 win to remain unbeaten in NEC play. Sacred Heart, meanwhile, dropped a 14-12 decision on that same day.

Wagner enters Saturday's contest with an overall record of 4-7, and a 0-3 mark in the NEC while the Pioneers are 5-6 overall and 1-3 in conference.

The Seahawks' calling card all season has been their fine defensive play, headed by junior goalie Matt Sefcik. Thanks in large measure to Sefcik, Wagner allows just 8.82 goals per game which ranks No. 18 nationally. Of the Seahawks' 11 opponents this season, seven have been limited to nine goals or less in a game.

Individually, the Towaco, NJ native ranks No. 3 in the nation in both saves per game (12.91), which tops the NEC, and in save percentage (.607), a figure that ranks second in the conference.

Wagner ranks No. 6 nationally in caused turnovers per game (9.18), spearheaded by senior defenseman Andrew Park who ranks No. 7 with an average of 2.18 CTs per game.

Offensively, senior attackman Andrew Streilein, who scored all three of Wagner's goals last time out vs. Bryant, paces the team with 29 points (18g, 11a), followed by a pair of attackmen who have notched 20 points apiece in junior John Norton (16g, 4a) and sophomore Nic Ancona (14g, 6 a).

Freshman Hank Ontiveros is the Seahawks' top faceoff man, having won 52-of-115 on the season while sophomore Nick Warren (36-of-95) also sees considerable time in the faceoff X.

Following Saturday's matchup with Sacred Heart, the Seahawks will host No. 19 Robert Morris on Saturday, April 21 in a 1:00 p.m. faceoff on Senior Day. The following Saturday, April 28, the Green & White will close out the 2018 campaign with a 1:00 p.m. start at Mount St. Mary's.
