Staten Island, NY  – The Wagner College women's basketball team, fresh off its first win of the season at Longwood on Wednesday, gears up for this afternoon's home opener when the Seahawks welcome Patriot League member Lafayette. 

Last Time Out For Wagner:
  • Behind six players scoring in double figures, the Wagner College women's basketball team secured its first win of the 2018-19 season on Wednesday morning, defeating the Longwood University Lancers, 86-60, at Willett Hall. 
  • The last time Wagner had five players score in double digits was back on February 4, 2017 in a 74-66 victory at Fairleigh Dickinson  (Julia McClure, 15 | Tanasia Russell, 13 | Corinn Baggs, 10 | Kerstie Phills, 18 | Kellie Crouch 13).
  • Redshirt sophomore Taylah Simmons, who made her season debut in today's contest, along with freshman forward Emilija Krista Grava, each scored a team-best 18 points. In addition, Krista Grava recorded her first career double-double, pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds.
  • Khaleah Edwards tallied 12 points while Alayshia Dailey and Janelle Mullen each scored 11. Dailey led the Seahawks with six assists and two steals in her 28 minutes of action. Senior Nakylia Carter was the sixth member in double figures, ending the contest with 10 points in 30 minutes.

Wagner/Lafayette Series:
  • Saturday's contest between the Seahawks and the Leopards marks the 11th all-time meeting between the two schools with Wagner holding a 6-4 edge in the head-to-head matchup. 
  • The Green & White are 3-2 in their last five meetings, having last secured a 69-48 win back on December 9, 2015 at the Spiro Sports Center. 
  • Last season, Wagner dropped a 70-52 decision in Easton, PA. Sierra Clark led the way for the visitors with a game-high 29 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the field, which included a 5-of-7 shooting clip from three-point range. Morgan Lenahan was the only other Seahawk in double figures, finishing with 11 points
Wagner All-Time Against The Patriot League:
  • Wagner has played 60 games against current Patriot League members, sporting a 28-32 overall record against the conference. 
  • Lafayette is the first of two Patriot League opponents scheduled for Wagner this season, as the Seahawks will host the Army West Point Black Knights on December 8 at 1:00 p.m. on Staten Island.

  • Extend Wagner's overall win streak to two games.
  • Give Wagner a 7-4 edge in the head-to-head series with Lafayette.

Simmons Shines In Season Debut... 
  • Redshirt sophomore wing Taylah Simmons made her season debut against Longwood on 11/14, tying for the team lead with 18 points with freshman Emilija Krista Grava, while pulling down seven rebounds in 26 minutes of action. 
  • Simmons also went 2-for-4 from beyond-the-arc in the victory against the Lancers. 

Janelle Not Mulling Around...
  • After logging just seven minutes in her Wagner debut at Fordham, redshirt junior guard Janelle Mullen increased her workload and produced for the Seahawks.
  • In a total of 22 minutes off the bench, the Ozone Park, NY native connected on 4-of-8 from the field, which included three-of-four from beyond the arc, to finish the contest with 11 points. She also added three rebounds. 

Khaleah's Career Night At Fordham...
  • Second-year Seahawk, Khaleah Edwards, produced one of her finest games in a Wagner uniform at Fordham on Friday evening.
  • The London, England native led the Green & White with a career and team-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, which included four made three pointers, in her 32 minutes of action. 
  • For Edwards, it marked the sixth time in her young Wagner career that she has tallied double figures while marking the first time she has led the club in scoring.
  • Additionally, Edwards grabbed a team-high five rebounds against the Rams, which also marked the first time she has led the squad in the rebounding department. 
 
Krista Clear...
  • Freshman forward Emilija Krista Grava has opened up her freshman campaign in tremendous fashion, scoring in double-figures in all three games for Wagner thus far, which includes her first career double-double, in which she posted 18 points and grabbed a career-high 14 caroms in Wagner's 86-60 victory over Longwood on Wednesday.  

Scouting The Leopards...
  • Lafayette enters Saturday's contest at 2-0, their best start since the 2013-14 season. 
  • The Leopards earned a 63-57 road victory at fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) member, Fairleigh Dickinson, on November 9 and followed up with its first home win of the season, a 59-50 triumph over Binghamton.
  • Natalie Kucowski, who was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday, is the team's leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 21.5 points per game while pulling down 14.5 rebounds a contest. Against FDU, she poured in 29 points with 16 rebounds and registered her 11th career double-double against Binghamton, finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds. 
  • Through two games, Lafayette is outscoring their opponents by 7.5 points while shooting 35.0 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from three-point range. 
  • The Leopards are a +15.0 on the boards, outmuscling their opposition, 53-38, on the glass. 

Up Next For Wagner...
  • The Seahawks will spend the Thanksgiving holiday away from Staten Island as Wagner travels to Burlington, VT to compete in the TD Bank Classic, hosted by the University of Vermont. 
  • On Friday, November 23, the Seahawks square off against the host Catamounts before concluding the two-day tournament against either Siena or Drexel.
