Biography
Tanasia Russell is an athletic, slashing 5-8 shooting guard who possesses a scorer’s mindset. She goes by the nickname “Pogo,” a moniker that helps describe her explosive leaping ability.
2016-17 Junior Season: Finished second on the team with 10.9 points per game average … Her signature game came during a thrilling 87-71 win at then NEC-leading Saint Francis U, when the athletic 5-8 guard poured in a career-high and team-leading 22 points … Outburst vs. SFU was keyed by 9-of-15 shooting from the floor, which included 4-of-8 marksmanship from three-point range … Averaged 29.0 minutes of playing time per game … Started 22 of the 28 games in which she played … Opened her season with six straight double-digit scoring games and hit for 10 or more points 17 times overall … Recorded her first career double-double with 14 points and a personal-best ten rebounds at home vs. Saint Francis U (1/28/17).
2015-16 Sophomore Season: Saw action in all 29 games for the Seahawks … Came off the bench to average 5.6 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in 15.6 minutes of playing time per game … Poured in a career-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting in 25 minutes of playing time vs. Bryant (1/9) … Had a 15-point game at Saint Francis U (1/2) and a 14-point effort at Bryant (2/13) … Hit for double figures on five occasions.
2014-2015 Freshman Season: Saw action in all 29 games off the bench, averaging 11.4 minutes per game ... Averaged 4.1 points and 1.8 rebounds per game ... Came on strrong towards the end of the season, averaging 10.0 points on 52 percent shooting and 5.3 rebounds over the final three games ... Capped her freshman campaign by being named the Corvais ECAC Division I Metro/Upstate Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 1 ... Career-high 14 points at Central Connecticut (1/31) ... Nine points and five rebounds vs. first-place Bryant (2/23) ... Followed that effort with an11-point, four-rebound performance at Mount St. Mary’s (2/28) ... Ended frosh season on high note with productive 16-minute stint at Robert Morris (3/2), scoring all 10 of her points in the second half ... Also grabbed career-high seven seven rebounds vs. Colonials in helping the Seahawks overcome a 13-point second-half deficit en route to an impressive 66-60 win.
Scholastic/Personal: Ranked fifth in the state of New Jersey with a 28.5 points per game average last season, while being named the South Jersey Times Salem/Cumberland County Player of the Year ... Earned Player of the Year and First Team All- Cape Athletic League (CAL) American Conference honors by the Vineland Daily Journal and the CAL Coaches Association ...Finished her career with 1,378 career points in essentially just over two years of varsity play, recording a career-high 42 points on January 27, 2014 vs. Bridgeton ...
