Emmitsburg, MD -   The Wagner College baseball team is set to close out the 2017 regular season as the Seahawks travel to Emmitsburg, MD to tangle with the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers in a four-game set beginning on Thursday, May 18.

Series History: Wagner and Mount St. Mary's have met 92 times with the Seahawks owning a 52-40 record in the head-to-head series. In the last ten years, which consists of 44 games, both teams have won 22 games. The Seahawks swept last season matchup on Staten Island, outscoring the Mountaineers 53-14 over the four-game series.

Seahawks Playoff Push: Entering play at 18-25 overall and 10-11 in Northeast Conference (NEC) action, the Seahawks are currently on the outside looking in as they vie for one of the final two playoff spots. The Seahawks are right now in fifth-place. Bryant has secured the regular season and the No. 1 spot with a 20-6 record. Central Connecticut, who the Seahawks split their most recent series with, is in second at 17-7. LIU Brooklyn is third with an 11-11 conference mark while Sacred Heart is fourth at 11-12. Both the Blackbirds and Pioneers are facing each other this weekend, which will affect the Seahawks' playoff chances. 

Over The Last Ten Games:  The Green & White are 5-5 in their last ten games, hitting a collective .314 (107-for-341) with 69 runs, 18 doubles, three triples, 14 home runs and 67 RBIs. In their last ten contests, the Seahawks are slugging .507 and are 20-of-27 in stolen base attempts.

Scouting Mount St. Mary's: The Mount enter the final weekend of the regular season with an overall record of 7-36 and are just 4-20 in league play. Will Enrico is the team's top hitter, batting .321. Zach Hostetter has connected on a team-high four home runs while Tyler Post has driven in a team-leading 24 RBIs. Collectively, the Mountaineers are batting just .239 and are 22-38 in stolen base opportunities. On the hill, Zach Call is the team's leader with four wins. Jordan Lawson his thrown the most innings (71.1) while Michael Collins has a team-best 39 strikeouts.

Top Of The Mountain: Several Seahawks have been successful in their careers against the Mountaineers. On the mound, sophomore LHP Neil Abbatiello (North Salem, NY/Dobbs Ferry) is 2-0 lifetime against Mount St. Mary's with a 2.25 ERA, striking out eight batters and issuing just three walks. Goeke is 1-1 all-time against Mount, with a 1.98 ERA in 13.2 innings as the reigning NEC Pitcher of the Week has 14 strikeouts to just three walks in three games. At the plate, junior INF Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE] is hitting at a .370 clip all-time against Mount, with six RBIs. Fellow classmates, OF Kyle Cala (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) is a career .313 hitter (5-for-16) with seven runs scored, a home run and five RBIs while Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY/Pleasantville) is batting .295 against the Mountaineers, with four doubles and is 3-for-4 on stolen base chances. Capra sports a .310 batting average (9-for-29) with five runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs.

Freddy Kruger: Freshman Freddy Sabido (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner [Saint Louis Univ]) has given opposing pitchers nightmares over his last nine games, as the first-year designated hitter has batted .410 (16-for-39) with ten runs scored, four home runs and eight RBIs while posting a total OPS (on-base + slugging) of 1.196.

Capra Diem: Sophomore C/INF Phil Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) is hitting .400 over his last ten games, recording a hit in nine of those ten contest swhile slugging a robust .700. Capra drove in the game-winner in the series finale to propel the Seahawks to a 5-4 win in eleven innings on Sunday afternoon.

Goeke's Hat Trick: For the third time this season, senior RHP Austin Goeke (Bordentown, NJ/The Hun School) was named NEC Pitcher of the Week. The 6-5 right-hander claimed the weekly award back on April 17 and on March 6. Goeke fired his second complete-game of the season and the fourth of his career against the second-place Central Connecticut Blue Devils last Friday. With the win, the Bordentown, NJ native recorded career victory No. 13, tying him for tenth on the all-time Wagner wins list with former teammate Matt Morris ('16), Ryan Casey ('14) and Mark Nugent ('98).

Pocket Aces Top A Pair: Goeke along with senior co-captain, RHP Danny Marsh (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) are among the league leaders in several pitching categories. Marsh is the league-leader in ERA at 1.50, which is also good for eighth in the entire NCAA as of May 15. Goeke is second at 2.62. The next closest is Central Connecticut's Mike Appeal, who sports a 3.73. Goeke is tops in the NEC in opposing batting average at .190 while Marsh is second at .203.

Strikeout Trio: Wagner's predominant starters, Marsh, Goeke and freshman RHP Chris Mormile (Wildwood, NJ/Wildwood) have accounted for 175 of the team's 291 punchouts this season. Goeke is one strikeout behind NEC-leader, Bryant's James Karinchak, as Goeke has 71 K's on the season. March is third with 57 while Mormile has 47 strikeouts to his credit. As a team, the 291 total K's are second in the circuit this season, trailing only Bryant (360). 
 

Seahawks In Professional Baseball....
Andrew Bailey (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, American League):
  • Currently on the 10-day disabled list as of April 12, 2017 with right shoulder inflammation.
  • Bailey improved to 2-0 this year after taking the victory in the Angels' wild 10-9 win over the Seattle Mariners (Read Staten Island Advance's Jim Waggoner's recap of the contest)
  • The former Seahawk earned his first win of the season on April 4 when he came in for Bud Norris and retired the Oakland A's in order in the bottom of the eighth. 
  • In 12 games last season, Bailey went 0-0 with a 2.38 ERA while recording six saves, to bring his career total to 95.
  • In 11.1 innings for LAA, Bailey struck out eight batters and walked just two while giving up just three earned runs. 

Mike Adams (Rockland Boulders | Can-Am League | Independent League): 
  • In his first professional season playing for the Rockland Boulders, Adams went 5-6 with a 5.86 ERA in 16 games for the 2015 Can-Am Regular Season champions. 
  • For the year, Adams hurled 66.0 innings, striking out 30 batters while walking 37. 
  • In Rockland's playoff run, the former Seahawk right-hander pitched in four games, striking out five batters in five innings of work. 

Nick Dini (Lexington Legends | Class A | South Atlantic League | Parent Club: Kansas City Royals):
  • The former 2015 NEC Player of the Year is batting .242 (15-for-62) with 12 runs scored, two home runs and six RBIs in 17 games for the Legends. 
  • In his most recent game on May 15, Dini went 2-for-4 with the lone RBI in Lexington's 2-1 defeat at the Augusta Greenjackets (Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants)
  • Dini hit his second home run of the season back on May 2 against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (Class A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins) in the sixth inning, which helped Lexington to an 8-4 victory. 
  • Last season, Dini posted a .316 batting average with 4 home runs in his first season, Dini saw time with four clubs within the Kansas City Royals organization in his second professional season, finishing out the year where he started back at the Idaho Falls Chukars.
  • For 2016, Dini batted a combined .319 with nine RBIs and three stolen bases. 

Nolan Long (Great Falls Loons | Class A | Midwest League | Parent Club: Los Angeles Dodgers): 
  • Assigned to Dodgers Ext. Spring Training on April 15, 2017. 
  • Long is 0-1 with a 15.00 ERA in three games out of the pen for the Loons. In just three innings, Long has walked six batters while striking out three. 
  • The towering 6-10 right-hander finished his second professional season splitting time between the Great Lakes Loons and the Ogden Raptors as he compiled a 6-11 record, with a 5.65 ERA in 27 games.
  • As a member of the Loons, Long made 13 starts en route to a 4-8 record as he threw 64.1 innings, striking out 62 batters while walking 35, a 1.77:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. 
  • The former two-sport athlete on Grymes Hill, had eight games of at least five strikeouts, which included a season-best nine punchouts against the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds Class A affiliate) back on July 11. 

Ian Miller (Arkansas Travelers | Double A | Texas League | Parent Club: Seattle Mariners):
  • The former 2013 NEC First Teamer is batting .331 (47-for-1142) in 34 games.
  • Miller has ten doubles, a triple, two home runs and 11 RBIs while going 13-of-15 on stolen base attempts. 
  • Miller leads the entire Texas League in the stolen base department with those 13 steals   
  • Miller has produced back-to-back games consisting of three hits, most recently going 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Arkansas' 6-2 setback against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Double A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals) 
  • On April 26, Miller finished a season-best, 4-of-6 at the plate with a run scored, and his first home run of the season despite Arkansas falling 6-5, in extra innings. Miller's solo shot came in the top of the seventh as he led off the frame. 
  • Last season, Miller finished his fourth professional season with the Jackson Generals of the Southern League. In 114 games, Miller batted .269 with 28 RBIs, eight doubles, seven triples and 45 walks.
  • Miller finished second in the league with 49 stolen bases and was caught just five times while posting an on-base percentage of .331.

Ben Ruta (Charleston RiverDogs | Class A | South Atlantic League | Parent Club: New York Yankees): 
  • The former two-time NEC First Teamer was assigned to the Charleston RiverDogs from the Staten Island Yankees on May 8. 
  • In six total games for the RiverDogs, Ruta is batting .381 with four runs scored, a double and a triple. 
  • In his second game for the RiverDogs, Ruta went 3-for-5 with three runs scored in leading Charleston to 14-4 road victory at the Hickory Crawdads (Class A affiliate of the Texas Rangers) on May 11. 
  • In his first game, Ruta went 2-for-4 while playing right field and batting ninth for the RiverDogs as they couldn't complete the comeback, falling to the Delmarva Shorebirds (Class A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles), 6-4. 
  • In his first professional season, Ruta began the 2016 season with the Pulaski Yankees of the Appalachian League.
  • In 13 games, Ruta batted .283 with a home run and eight RBIs while slugging .413.
  • He was promoted to the Staten Island Yankees on July 14, becoming the first Seahawk to play for Staten Island, whose home games are played at Richmond County Bank Ballpark where the Green & White play their home games. 
  • In his first game back in St. George, Ruta went 1-for-4 with a RBI.
  • On August 4 against the Williamsport Crosscutters, Ruta belted his first home run as a member of the SI Yankees while driving in two runs and going 2-for-4 in the contest, a 5-3 victory for the Yankees.
