Newark, DE - The Wagner College baseball team concludes its lengthy road trip as they travel to Newark, DE to take on host Blue Hens and the Binghamton University Bearcats. The Seahawks and Blue Hens open the series on Thursday, March 9 at 2:30 p.m. On March 10, the Green & White takes on the Bearcats at 11:00 a.m. and conclude their series with a doubleheader, first against Binghamton at 11:00 a.m. and against the Blue Hens at 2:30 p.m.
All-Time Series: The Seahawks are 0-3 all-time against Delaware, last meeting back in 1982. Wagner and Binghamton are meeting for the first time in program history.
Scouting University of Delaware: The Blue Hens, who have won their last three games and five out of their last six, enter play with a 5-6 overall record after securing a 17-6 victory over UMBC on Tuesday afternoon. Delaware is 3-1 at home this season. Kevin Mohollen and Doug Trimble lead the team with 15 hits while Jordan Glover is the squad's leading home run hitter (3) and RBI (14). On the hill, Ron Marinaccio has appeared in a team-high five games, pitching to the tune of a 1.50 ERA while recording a save in six innings tossed. Matt Hornich, who sports a 2-1 record, is the club's leader with 16 strikeouts.
Scouting Binghamton University: The Bearcats enter with a 7-3 overall record while on a six-game win streak, that includes a four-game sweep of No. 19 ranked Virginia Tech. Paul Rufo was named America East Player of the Week after hitting .476 in the four-game set in Blacksburg, VA with 10 hits and six RBIs. Justin Yurchak is the team's leading hitter at .545 (24-for-44) while Darian Hernacane has a team-best two home runs and Brendan Skidmore paving the way with a Bearcat-high nine RBIs. On the bump, Joe Orlando has a 2-0 record while not allowing a run in 11.0 innings pitched. Nick Wegmann also has two victories on the year while being one of three to lead the arms in strikeouts, joining Nick Gallagher and Jacob Wloczewski with 14.
Call To Arms: The Seahawks first three starters, seniors
Austin Goeke (Bordentown, NJ/The Hun School) and
Danny Marsh (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) along with newcomer
Chris Mormile (Wildwood, NJ/Wildwood) have had two solid starts to start the 2017 campaign. Combined, the trio have given up a total of 15 hits, seven runs (five earned) while walking 13 batters and striking out 31 batters and have held opponents to just a .143 average. Goeke leads the team with 13 K's and innings pitched.
