Emmitsburg, MD- The Wagner baseball team erupted for season highs in runs and hits en route to a 20-6 victory over Mount St. Mary's in gaining a split of the four-game Northeast Conference (NEC) weekend series on Sunday at Straw Family Stadium.

Wagner (23-17-1; 11-5 NEC) pounded out 24 hits, with all nine starters in the lineup registering a least one hit, while six of the nine batters produced multi-hits days.  It is the first time since April 3, 2013 that the Seahawks have scored at least 20 runs when they posted a 22-16 win over St. John's.

In the four-game series vs. the Mount, the Green & White totaled 50 hits, including 14 extra-base knocks, scored 38 times and batted .352.

Senior starter Max Schmardel (Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Regional) allowed three runs and six hits in 4.2 innings before giving way to junior left-hander Paul Mammino (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough), who picked up his first win of the season with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. Senior Evon Previte (Raritan, NJ/Immaculata) tossed a scoreless ninth as he got Kory Britton to strikeout on four pitches for the game's final out.

Wagner's top six players in the lineup, senior CF Trey Nicosia (State College, PA/State College Area), sophomore SS Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ/Seton Hall Prep), junior LF Ben Ruta (West Windsor, NJ/West-Windsor Plainsboro South), senior 2B, reigning NEC Player of the Week Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township), senior 1B Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Neshanic Station, NJ/Somerville) and defending NEC Rookie of the Week Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY/Pleasantville), went a combined 15-for-34 (.441) in the game with 12 runs scored and 9 RBIs.

Freshman 3B Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE]) went 4-for-6 with 4 RBIs, while senior catcher Jason Gordon (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBIs, which came on a ninth inning home run to right field.

Nicosia was 5-for-7 today with three runs scored on three singles and two doubles.  Mascelli added three hits in five chances while Dini's lone hit was a two-run round-tripper over the left field wall in the top of the seventh while all three Mazurkiewicz hits came via singles.

Wagner opened the scoring with three runs in the first but the Mount quickly answered in the bottom half of the frame. Ryan Owens led off with a single and Andrew Clow followed by sending his first of two home runs of the day over the centerfield wall to close the gap to 3-2. Britton doubled to right center and scored on Brian Parreira two-out RBI single to even the game at 3-3.

The Seahawks regained the lead in the top of the second on a Mascelli RBI double and plated two more runs in the fourth inning to make it 6-3 as Mascelli sent a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Gordon and Ruta singled home Nicosia.  Wagner ultimately seized control of the contest with four runs in the sixth and seven more in the top of the seventh as the lead increased to 17-3.

Dini recorded his third home run of the season in that inning.  Three straight doubles off the bats of senior RF Zack Yesko (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago), Mazzio and Nicosia upped the lead to 16-3 before Gordon scored on a wild pitch.

Mount scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth as Clow led off with his second home run of the game. Britton doubled and moved to third on a Zach Hostetter base hit.  Tyler Post sent a sacrifice fly that plated Britton and Joshua Lenig added a RBI single for the Mountaineers' final two runs of the game.

The Seahawks return to action on Friday, May 8 as they begin a four-game series with the Sacred Heart University Pioneers in Bridgeport, CT.  First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
