Merion Station, PA- Behind a solid pitching performance from sophomore
Austin Goeke (Bordentown, NJ/The Hun School), the Wagner baseball team posted a 4-1 triumph over Big East member, Villanova University, on Sunday.
Goeke produced an efficient five innings of three-hit ball without allowing a run while striking out seven Wildcat batters. His counterpart, Hayden Schryver, also went five innings while allowing five hits, two earned runs, while striking out seven and yielding five walks.

Ben Ruta (West Windsor, NJ/West-Windsor Plainsboro South) continues his hot start to the season, as he extended his hitting streak to 11 games as the third year Seahawk finished today's contest 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) posted his second straight multi-hit performance as he batted 3-for-3 on the afternoon while scoring two runs. Fellow classmate
Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Neshanic Station, NJ/Somerville) went 2-for-4 on the with two-RBI while freshman outfielder
Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY/Pleasantville) also had two hits to go along with his third RBI of the season.
Wagner got on the board first as leadoff hitter
Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) walked on five pitches. Ruta singled with one man out and senior
Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) followed Ruta with a walk to load the bases. Godino sent a ball back to the mound which forced Mascelli out at home. Mazurkiewicz singled to left field on the ninth pitch of the at-bat, scoring Dini and Ruta.
Villanova's best chance against Goeke came in the bottom of the fourth as with two outs, Kevin Jewitt, doubled down the left field line but the rally came to a halt as Goeke was able to strike out Jeff Courter swinging.
In the top of the seventh, Ruta led off with a single against Ryan Doty and Dini was plunked by a pitch. Godino stepped in and chopped a slow grounder towards the shortstop for an infield hit which loaded the bases for the Green & White. Doty was able to get Mazurkiewicz to ground into a double play which allowed a run to score.
The Wildcats managed to plate a run in the bottom half of the inning when Donovan May singled to left off of lefty reliever
Paul Mammino (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) bringing in Brady Acton to score to cut the deficit to 3-1. Godino added an RBI double with out in the top of the ninth to seal the win for the Seahawks.
Goeke lowered his ERA from 3.38 to 2.08 behind his performance on Sunday as the second-year righty is averaging four strikeouts over his last two outings while just allowing an average of two hits over this span.
The Seahawks welcome former Northeast Conference member and current Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) members, Monmouth University, on March 20
th as it will be Wagner's home opener after starting the season with 12-road games.
