Staten Island, NY - Mount St. Mary's jumped out to an 8-0 lead en route to an 11-4 victory over Wagner while garnering a split of today's doubleheader at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The Mountaineers improve to 6-8 and 1-2 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Seahawks fall to 3-11 and 2-1 in the league.

Cliff Brantley (Staten Island, NY / Port Richmond) and classmate 
Ian Vazquez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico / Perkiomen (PA)) all recorded two hits, leading a 10-hit attack.
The visitors struck first for a pair of runs in the top of the second inning on a two-out, two-run double from Zach Helman.
Mount St. Mary's then notched four runs in the top of the third while batting around, jumping in front 6-0.
The Mountaineers extended the lead to 8-0 in the top of the fourth inning with a pair of unearned runs.
Wagner finally broke through with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ramirez led off with a single before being lifted for a pinch-runner. Following an out, Vazquez notched his first hit of the game before junior 
Eddie Brown (Edison, NJ / St. Joseph (Metuchen) loaded the bases with a single of his own. One out later, senior 
Kevin McDonnell (Bristol, CT / Avon Old Farms) worked a walk, forcing in freshman 
Dave Pepe (Caldwell, NJ / James Caldwell). Unfortunately, the Seahawks would leave the bases loaded and trailed 8-1 after five.
After escaping their second bases-loaded, no out, situation of the weekend without allowing a run, the Green & White again loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning.Vazquez singled home Brantley before Brown plated Hunter on a RBI fielder's choice, drawing the Green & White to 8-3.
Unfortunately, Mount St. Mary's scored three more unearned runs on three errors in the top of the seventh, extending the lead out to 11-3. The Green & White got one of those runs back in the top of the seventh but was unable to overcome its second eight-run deficit of the game, falling 11-4.
Senior 
Jon Lucas (Hackettstown, NJ / Hackettstown) fell to 0-4 with the loss, yielding six runs on seven hits over 3.0 innings. Freshmen 
Matt Gavin (St. James, NY / Smithtown East) and 
Nick Pavia (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph By The Sea) were solid but yielded a combined five unearned runs on four errors.
Helman led a 12-hit Mountaineer attack, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI.
Freshman RHP Michael Locondro (2-1) collected the win, striking out four while yielding three runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings of work. Freshman LHP Nick Riley struck out two over 1.2 innings of work for his first collegiate save.
The teams will conclude their four-game series tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
