Staten Island, NY – Wagner erased an early four-run deficit but were denied a doubleheader sweep, losing to Mount St. Mary's 6-4 in the second game at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The Seahawks, which won the first two games of the four-game set, are 19-16 and 8-7 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Mountaineers are 18-19 and 10-5 in the NEC.
Mount St. Mary's LHP Brady Feigl struck out nine while yielding four runs, two earned, on eight hits and a walk in a complete-game effort while improving to 3-1.
The Mountaineers jumped in front for the third-straight game in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs on five hits while sending eight batters to the plate.
The Seahawks got on the board in the bottom of the third, scoring a pair of runs. Junior
Damian Csakai (Freehold, NJ / Freehold) singled up the middle before being moved over to third on a successful bunt hit by sophomore
Jared Gruccio (Landisville, NJ / Buena Regional). Gruccio stole second and senior
Chris Drechsel (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) drove the pair in with a double off the left-field fence, cutting the Mount lead to 4-2.

Jack Rice (Middlesex, NJ / Immaculata) settled into a nice grove, retiring 11 in a row, including one on a full-extension dive by Csakai.
During that time, the Seahawks continued to chip away finally tying the game up at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore
Brian Martutartus (Carlsbad, CA / La Costa Canyon) led off with a walk before classmate
Jon Lucas (Hackettstown, NJ / Hackettstown) reached on an error on a successful sacrifice bunt. The pair moved to second-and-third on another successful sacrifice bunt from sophomore
Joe Jamison (West Caldwell, NJ / James Caldwell). After a controversial play at the plate in which Martutartus was thrown out on a fielder's choice, Csakai stole his NEC-best 23rd stolen base of the year. Gruccio picked the pair up with a two-run single through the left side, plating Lucas and Csakai.
In the top of the sixth, Mount St. Mary's scored two runs to take the lead at 6-4. Josh Winter's RBI single through the right side plated Kyle Kane while moving Shane Eyler to third. Eyler would score on a Seahawk error to give the Mountaineers a two-run advantage they would not relinquish.
Drechsel went 2-4 with a double and two RBI while Gruccio was 2-4 with two RBI and a run to lead the way for the offense. Freshman
Tommy Higgins (Port Monmouth, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) also was 2-4 as the Green & White recorded eight hits.
Rice, who recorded four 1-2-3 innings, gave up six runs, five earned, on seven hits and two walks while striking out three over 5.1 innings in falling to 1-5.
Eyler and Winter each went 2-3 to pace the Mount.
The teams conclude their series tomorrow with a single game at 1:00 pm.
