Junior Damian Csakai went 2-4 in game one
BOX SCORE

Staten Island, NY –
Wagner scored five runs in the first inning en route to a 9-6 win over Maine in the first of two at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The Seahawks move to 9-6 with their third-straight win while the Black Bears fall to 12-11.

The Green & White offense was again on target, rapping out 12 hits as eight different starters hit safely.

Wagner took the early lead in today's first game, pouncing on Maine starter Matt Jebb for five first-inning runs while sending 10 batters to the plate. Junior Damian Csakai (Freehold, NJ / Freehold) led off with a double to left field. Classmate Joe Conforti (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) reached on an error before junior Vin Avella (Matawan, NJ / CBA) was hit by a pitch, loading up the bases. Sophomore Matt Logan (Wall, NJ / Wall) followed with a two-run single through the right side, putting the Seahawks up 2-0. Classmate Jon Lucas (Hackettstown, NJ / Hackettstown) capped the scoring with a three-run home run to deep right field, extending the lead out to 5-0.

The Black Bears immediately responded with four unearned runs in the top of the second, using four straight two-out hits.

The Green & White got one of the runs back in the bottom of the second when Conforti, who led off the frame with a single through the right side, scored on a Logan double to left field, pushing the lead out to 6-4.

Wagner added two runs in the bottom of the fourth while chasing Jebb after 3.2 innings of work. Logan laced a one-out single off the first baseman's glove. Senior Chris Drechsel (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) brought him around with a two-out double to right center. Sophomore Seth Boyd (Perth Amboy, NJ / Perth Amboy) greeted Maine reliever Matt Klaczkiewicz with a RBI double to right center, making it 8-4 Wagner.

The Black Bears tacked on two more unearned runs in the top of the fifth, making it 8-6.

The Green & White added to the lead in the sixth inning with an insurance run on a Csakai two-out RBI infield-single, plating Boyd.

The insurance run would not be needed as the Seahawk quartet of sophomore RHP Ian Karlsson (Brooklyn, NY / Xaverian), classmate LHP David Rees (Staten Island, NY / Xavier), senior RHP Kevin Rush (Metuchen, NJ / Metuchen) and classmate RHP Andrew Huebner (Hatfield, PA / North Penn) silenced the Black Bear bats over the final 4.0 innings, limiting them to just one hit and one walk. Over the last three games, all Seahawk wins, the bullpen did not allow a run over 13.0 innings.

Huebner struck out the final batter of the game, putting the finishing touches on his third-straight save with a scoreless ninth.

Junior RHP Matt Watson (Howell, NJ / Howell) improved to 2-1 on the year, scattering six runs, none of which were earned, on seven hits while striking out three and not walking a batter over 5.0 innings.

Logan, who entered the game mired in a 1-17 slump, went 3-4 with three RBI, two runs and a double to lead the Wagner offense. Csakai and Drechsel also recorded two hits while Lucas provided the big blow with his second home run of the year to round out the top performers.

Jebb (3-1) took the loss, yielding eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits over 3.2 innings with three strikeouts. Cather recorded three of the eight Maine hits to pace the Black Bears.
