Union, N.J. — The Seahawks dropped their NEC opener to FDU 14-2 in seven innings after the Knights' bullpen was able to keep the Wagner bats from getting hot.
Senior Nicholas Mazzotta had the biggest performance of the day for Wagner, pushing in two runs on a pair of fielders' choice plays that were ultimately the team's only runs of the day. The Seahawks ran into a buzzsaw in FDU's Chris Messina, a lefty who was giving the batters nothing to work with after starter Cooper Montelbano gave up six free passes in 1.1 innings pitched on four walks and a pair of hit batters. The Wagner lineup was only able to scratch one run across in Messina's 5.2 innings of work.
On the mound, senior Colin Trizuto's 5.1 innings are tied for the third-longest of his Wagner career, just behind his second longest of 5.2 against Stonehill — coincidentally, on two occasions two months apart — in 2025. He finished with five runs, three walks and three strikeouts across 27 batters faced. He was able to induce nine groundouts in the 96-pitch outing.
The Seahawks are back at Jim Hynes '63 Stadium on Saturday, March 7 for another 1 p.m. EST first pitch.
