BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Senior righty Colin Trizuto has been named NEC Pitcher of the Week for his shutout performance against Le Moyne, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Trizuto went 8.0 innings pitched against the Dolphins on March 20, holding Le Moyne off the board for the first time this season and striking out seven batters on the way to a win in the series opener. His 8.0 innings pitched are the most by a Wagner pitcher this season and mark his longest outing as a Seahawk. His seven strikeouts mark a new season high for any single Wagner pitcher, a number raised to eight by Joseph Steventon the next day, and zero walks marks a new season low.
Alongside Trizuto, graduate Lukas Torres and redshirt sophomore Joseph Steventon were named Prime Performers for their week. Torres was 6-of-11 in four games, scoring eight runs with a pair of doubles against Le Moyne. He worked five walks and went 3-for-3 on stolen base attempts, finishing his weekend 4-for-4 in game three that ended in the sweep of the Dolphins. Steventon's eight strikeouts set a new season high for a Wagner pitcher after Trizuto set the mark at seven the day prior. He currently holds a 4.03 ERA and 1.28 in 29.0 innings of work after going 7.0 innings against Le Moyne in game two, allowing just one run on five hits.
Next, the Seahawks head to Fordham for a 3 p.m. matchup on Wednesday, march 25 at Houlihan Park. That midweek game comes before the team heads to West Haven, Connecticut for their weekend series against conference newcomer New Haven.
