AUGUSTA, N.J. — The Seahawks took a 9-7 victory over Le Moyne on Sunday to sweep their series with the Dolphins, earning a second NEC series win to finish the weekend at 6-3 in conference play.
It was a back-and-forth battle that saw Le Moyne jump out to an early lead in the first, but Wagner's offense quickly took over and a five-run third made the difference in the end. The Seahawks finished with nine runs on 15 hits, tying the season high set at LIU on March 15.
Graduate Lukas Torres rounded out a massive weekend performance, going 4-for-4 with a pair of runs scored to finish at 6-for-10 on the weekend. Sophomore Matt Sutera, batting second as the designated hitter, was 2-for-5 behind Torres.
Torres led off the first with a double, followed by a single from Sutera to move him to third for junior Joseph Mennella, whose groundout allowed Torres to score. An RBI single from junior Dylan Immel brought Wagner within one, ending the first trailing 3-2.
Batting ninth, junior Jackson Blakley had a massive day, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBIs on his first home run as a Wagner Seahawk. The three-run shot to left center field traveled 404 feet and capped off the third inning for the Seahawks, putting them ahead 7-3 and chasing Le Moyne starting pitcher Max Danaher from the game just one batter later. Wagner finished that third inning with five runs on four hits, stranding just one runner.
Le Moyne added a run in the fourth, then Wagner tacked on solo run sin the sixth and eighth to keep the Dolphins at bay. Senior Nicholas Mazzotta entered to pitch in the ninth and ran into some traffic, but finished out the game and secured the win. Mazzotta, in addition to his inning pitched, finished 2-of-5 with an RBI as one of Wagner's four batters with multiple hits on Sunday.
Senior Justin Roitman started on the mound for the Seahawks, going 3.1 innings and giving up just one earned run to a steady Le Moyne lineup. He struck out four and finished his day at 63 pitches, reliever by sophomore Frankie Nardo.
Nardo takes the win to sit at 1-0 this season, throwing 3.0 scoreless innings and needing just 37 pitches to face 12 Dolphins. Redshirt junior Braden Lowe, in his second outing of the weekend, threw 1.2 innings behind Nardo, going scoreless as well to keep the Dolphins off the board in the back half of the game.
Next up, Wagner heads to Fordham on Wednesday, March 25 for a 3 p.m. EDT matchup with the Rams. From there, the Seahawks head to West Haven, Connecticut for their weekend NEC series with conference newcomer New Haven.
