AUGUSTA, N.J. — Wagner's pair of pitchers struck out 13 Dolphins on the way to a 5-1 win over Le Moyne on Saturday, good for a second consecutive NEC series win for the Seahawks.
Redshirt junior Joseph Steventon threw 7.0 innings as Wagner's starter, allowing just five hits and a single run. He faced 27 Le Moyne batters and struck out, finishing his outing at 90 pitches. Junior lefty Keith Davis entered with a three-run lead in the eighth, striking out five to earn his first save of the season.
Le Moyne starter Luke Vanmarter takes the loss, allowing the Seahawks to score three runs on five hits in his 4.2 innings pitched. A pair of RBI singles from junior Diego Tavarez and sophomore Matt Sutera put Wagner up 2-0 in the first, then another RBI single from Tavarez in the fifth was the third run to score that ultimately chased Vanmarter from the game. Le Moyne scored it's lone run in the fourth on an RBI double.
Tavarez was the only Wagner player with multiple hits, logging a 3-of-4 day with the two RBIs. Graduate Lukas Torres was 1-of-3 with a pair of walks and three runs scored. Junior Joseph Mennella was the other Seahawk with multiple walks, working a pair as well. The lineup finished with 10 walks. In addition to Sutera's one hit, junior Dylan Immel added Wagner's sixth hit of the day.
A sacrifice fly from Immel scored Torres in the seven to push the Wagner lead to 4-1, then a wild pitch in the eighth allowed freshman Alex Kerr to score the fifth run of the day after he was inserted into the game to pinch run for freshman catcher Brendan McLoughlin.
The Seahawks look to take the series against Le Moyne on Sunday, March 22 in another 1 p.m. EDT game.
