Augusta, N.J. — A career high seven strikeouts for senior Colin Trizuto led the way for Wagner's 6-0 win over Le Moyne, a game where the Seahawks tallied nine hits.
Right-hander Trizuto, now 1-2 this season, had his longest outing in two seasons as a Seahawk, throwing 96 pitches across eight innings of work. The efficient Le Moyne offense put up nine hits, but with a solid defensive performance behind him, Trizuto held the Dolphins scoreless on the way to their first shutout loss of the season. Redshirt junior Braden Lowe closed out the game in the ninth for Wagner, striking out three of the four batters he faced.
The top four hitters in the Wagner lineup each logged a hit, with sophomore Matt Sutera and junior Diego Tavarez finishing with a pair each to go 2-of-4 from the second and third sports in the order, respectively. Batting eighth, freshman Brendan McLoughlin was 2-for-3 with an RBI, his first multi-hit game of the season. Tavarez accounted for three of the Seahawks' six RBIs. Wagner's batters only struck out twice in 33 at-bats.
Junior Joseph Mennella kicked off the scoring in the fourth, hitting a solo home run to left centerfield to put the Seahawks up 1-0. Junior Omar Carreras led off the fifth with a double, scoring on an RBI single from McLoughlin. An RBI double from Torres sent McLoughlin home for a third run, then a single from Sutera put a pair of runners on for Tavarez. A high ball into left center had the Dolphins' defense struggling to locate the ball, which allowed Sutera and Torres to score, giving Wagner a 5-0 lead that it carried into the sixth.
The final run of the day came after Torres walked then stole second, sent home on an RBI single from Tavarez that found a gap and went into left field. His walk was the only one issued by the Le Moyne pitching staff on Friday.
Next up, Wagner and Le Moyne return to Skylands Stadium on Saturday, March 21 for a 1 p.m. EDT game that could determine the series.
