Wagner's Week in Review
The Seahawks hosted FDU for their first NEC series of 2026 after three weekends on the road to start the season. It was a slow start for Wagner, with FDU taking the opener on Friday, March 6 in a 14-2, seven-inning victory.
The Seahawks roared back to take a 13-6 win on Saturday, but a steady offensive output from FDU pushed the Knights to a ten-inning, 8-6 win on Sunday to take game three and the series.
Heading to New Jersey for the first midweek of the season, Wagner fell 8-5 to Rutgers on Tuesday, March 10 as its first non-conference game since a 15-10 loss to close out the series against Maryland on March 1.
Scouting the Sharks
Opening its season in search of warmer weather, LIU went on the road to San Diego State then Jacksonville for its first two weekends of 2026, getting swept in three games each of those weekends. Down 0-6, the Sharks had to cancel a home series against UMass Lowell that would have been their final games preceding conference play.
With the cancellation, the Sharks welcomed Norfolk State on Saturday, March 7 for a doubleheader that was them run-rule the Spartans 15-4 in the opener across seven innings, then won game two 7-5. Back against Sunday, March 8, the Sharks swept the series with a 7-4 win.
This week, LIU hosted Rider on Tuesday, March 10 for its first midweek game of 2026, dropping that game 7-6 after the Broncs put up their seven runs in the first two innings. Four runs from the Sharks in the final three innings were just too late an effort to take the win.
The 2025 Series
Wagner saw the Sharks in four games in 2025, hosting LIU for a series in the middle of March before a rematch in the NEC Tournament semifinals.
Bringing the Sharks to SIUH Community Park for the team's first home conference series, Wagner split a March 14 doubleheader, dropping the opener 6-4 before coming back to close the day with a 3-2 win. Rounding out the weekend on Saturday, March 15, LIU was able to take the series with a 9-3 victory.
Meeting again on Saturday, May 24 in the semifinals of the NEC Tournament after No. 2 Wagner won a survive-and-advance quarterfinal earlier in the day against No. 4 Stonehill, the No. 1-seeded Sharks were able to pull off an 11-1, seven-inning win to advance to the title game. From there, the Sharks were able to take an 8-7 win to open Sunday and give CCSU one loss in the double-elimination tournament, but No. 3 CCSU was ultimately able to win the championship in the second game of the day with a 6-5 victory.
