GENEVA, Ohio — The Wagner swimming and diving teams will head to Geneva, Ohio to compete in the NEC Championships starting Tuesday, Feb. 17.
Last season, the men's team came close to winning their second consecutive NEC Championship, but finished just seven points behind eventual champion Howard (883-876). The women's team did not come as close, as they finished fourth out of seven with 540 points.
At the start of the current season, the men's team was picked second in the NEC preseason poll, while the women's team was picked third.
Both teams had strong individual performances throughout the season. Sophomore
Mia Goodale led the way with four Swimmer of the Week awards, while fellow sophomore
Gaya Savran picked up four Prime Performer nods throughout the season. On the men's side, sophomores
Florian Schumich and
Ben McLaughlin each earned a Swimmer of the Week award, while senior
Carter Green set school records for scores in the 1-meter dive (248.05) and the 3-meter dive (243.90).
Both teams picked up wins against Southern Connecticut and LIU over the course of the season, while the women's team also defeated Seton Hall and LIU a second time.
The NEC Championships start on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The preliminary events will start at 12 p.m., and the final events will start at 6 p.m.
