GENEVA, Ohio — Wagner Swimming and Diving had their most successful day at this year's NEC Championships so far, winning one bronze medal, five silvers and two golds.
The men's team took two spots on the podium in the 400-yard individual medley. Sophomore
Florian Schumich took 1st in the race with a 3:58.02 time, the only swimmer to finish in under four minutes. Right behind him was senior
Russell Gavino, who swam a 4:00.68 and collected Wagner's first silver medal of the Championships.
Later in the meet, junior
Senan Noonan placed 2nd in the 100-yard backstroke (49.87), missing out on gold by just four hundredths of a second. Finally, Noonan joined juniors
Nikko Carrillo,
Manuel Chavez Villalpando and
Max Wameling in the 400-yard medley relay, where they placed 2nd with a 3:16.78 time.
On the women's side, sophomore
Mia Goodale collected her second gold medal in as many days, placing 1st in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:49.64 time. Goodale would later join sophomore
Gaya Savran, junior
Rachael Harris and senior
Lia Vendel in the 400-yard medley relay, where they finished 2nd with a 3:44.80 time.
Savran reached an individual podium as well, when she placed 3rd in the 100-yard butterfly event with a 55.21 time. Then, junior
Brooke Woolfe would round out the Seahawks medal count with a second place finish in the 400-yard individual medley.
