GENEVA, Ohio — The Wagner swimming and diving teams wrapped up their second day at the NEC Championships by winning their first gold medal of the four-day event. The Seahawks would additionally reach five more podiums in day 2.
Sophomore
Mia Goodale provided the highlight of the night when she placed first in the women's 500-yard freestyle event (4:55.57). It was a photo finish, as Goodale touched the wall less than a tenth of a second ahead of the second place finisher. This was Goodale's third individual medal after collecting two bronzes in day 1.
Also from the women's team, junior
Brooke Woolfe placed 3rd in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.57), sneaking in just a fifth of a second ahead of the fourth-place finisher. This was Woolfe's second bronze medal of the championships.
The men's team collected the other four bronze medals of the night. Sophomore
Ben McLaughlin finished 3rd in the men's 500-yard freestyle (4:36.77), and junior
Nikko Carrillo finished 3rd in the men's 200-yard individual medley (1:50.35), narrowly edging out the fourth place finisher by two-hundredths of a second.
Junior
Max Wameling finished 3rd in the 50-yard freestyle (20.55), then placed 3rd in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:21.95) with fellow junior
Senan Noonan and seniors
Alex Magditch and
Joel Knaapi.
